If this building goes up to 1.6 million square feet, that’s very comparable to 70 Hudson Yards which has about the same square footage. Does that mean this building may go into the ~800 ft range?

I think that’s possible, but this site has a fairly larger footprint than the 70 HY site.

I hope 900 feet

I haven’t seen a render depicting that but KPF renders on their website say 924k. If this grew by 50% I could see 50 floors/850 roof: Not super tall.

Excavation and the foundation phase of construction has to be my least favorite part. Feels like that task takes forever.

Yep. Foundation work is slow. But it’s also one of the most important and risky parts of constructing any building, especially a big one. Just witness 161 Maiden Lane. If you visit a foundation site often it’s actually fascinating how it gets built while protecting neighboring buildings and holding off a collapse of ground being removed.

My favorite part of construction is vertical construction.

Anyone know why they didn’t excavate the southwest corner with the rest of the site? Site is a nice chasm now - reminds me of BoA ~20 years ago.

BTW Gary got a new loan. Article says nada about total square footage, but did mention 29 stories specifically

There was still a building there as of recently while the rest of the excavation had already progressed rapidly/significantly. You can see the pile machines on that small quadrant in the background starting to make progress on the lot line walls in abot’s last photo.

The soldier piles supporting that portion of earth will eventually be removed and pushed to the extent of that lot once its also excavated.

Those old prewar buildings in that area are so nice.

Check this out, the lease is larger than before. Hopefully the building’s gotten taller.

“Global law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has finalized the largest Manhattan office deal signed in May.
The law firm, which specializes in corporate transactions and private equity, signed a 916,000-square-foot lease at Extell Development’s office development at 570 Fifth Avenue, according to a memorandum of lease filed in property records and a new Manhattan office report from Colliers.”
