Anyone else impressed that there doesn’t seem to be any temporary diagonal steel shoring at the perimeter of the site?
They dont need to use shoring struts for this excavation because the soldier piles at the perimeter with walers (the horizontal steel elements) that are tying the shoring back to bedrock are sufficient enough to support the load of earth that is not bedrock.
Is this a part of town where the schist runs pretty high?
generally higher in the middle of midtown.

remember when this thing was supposed to be taller than 520 fifth… now its almost half the height
People only think that because NY Yimby made the decision to only report on the taller version (resi+hotel version) of the 2 original proposals and that that version would be the one to move forward when there was no clear indication of anything about the project.
They made people get their hopes up for something that had no actual direction at that point in time.
This design looks like something perfect for demolition in 50 years so they can build something good.
Such a wasted opportunity.
This is being redesigned.
Sounds like an additional 600,000 square feet at the top.
That’s a lot added.
This is per the magisterial Lois Weiss in the NY Post.
She says it’s going up to 1.6 million square feet.
Oh I’m not saying it’s not real or anything, just that it’s a significant enlargement of the built up floor area.
It’s still most likely referring to 1.6million gross sf, the addition in terms of zoning sf would be less. Regardless, a sizeable increase.
Further south, Barnett will construct a now larger, 1.6 million-square-foot office tower at 570 Fifth with an Ikea at its base.
The next Supertall
Further south? What? This isn’t being built somewhere else as another tower.
Nobody said supertall, wait for confirmation on height before saying that…
Further south relative to the Prada Tower site.
?I just thought
that it would be bigger. 570 Fifth Ave
