Any word on when the bean will be completed?
canât be good for the final aesthetics given that half of it has been exposed to the elements for 10 months

why âthe heckâ havenât they finished the bean?
Welcome Bro!
Thank you bro!
No idea. Seriously, has anyone seen info on this? They just decided not to finish it ever since the Covid lockdown I guess⌠its hideous halfway done with all this plywood and stuff, no idea how the multimillionaire tenants donât complain
I do know they canât work on the bean during cold weather. The metal and the bolts used to join the sections get too brittle. So I suspect that further work wonât renew until spring at the earliest. If COVID allows the work to proceed I suspect they will restart in a few months⌠One additional note. The people who assemble the bean have to work in very tight quarters. And air circulation gets more and more constrained as the last segments are installed. There is a hatch in the rear to use to get out at the end but that doesnât help a lot with protection from COVID. If that remains an issue itâs going to be difficult to predict when work will resume.
Incredible model! You should create a separate forum showcasing your models if you have any more
I have not found any info on the delay; it is quite an ugly and unfortunate situation. The âactualâ account of for this long delay is not public information at this point.
All I can say is: it has BEAN a long time. I am totally CRUSHED by how long it is taking them to finish.
Infoshare: My office is quite close to the bean. Before COVID I frequently chatted with the workmen about how the thing is put together. Lots of the work happens inside the bean. Each segment is attached using large numbers of bolts and nuts that have to be tightened within a certain tolerance. After they are all attached but not fully tightened the interior braces will be removed as each segment is properly aligned. When completed the bean will be self supporting. Before the supports are removed the interior will be a bit of a rabbit warren. It is a unique projectâvery different than the Chicago bean which is not segmented. The NY bean couldnât be built that way because of its odd, under a building location.
Correction: The Chicago bean was installed in segments. I just checked online.
Sounds like a great idea to me, I am thinking of doing a large part of Manhattan, Lower and Midtown, this idea occurred to me because I have designed some projects in the city and I would like to know what they would look like if they were already completed
I do not believe of word of that account, but I surely do not doubt that is what you are being told. We have had nothing but mild weather this winter, so air temperatures having anything to do with this sounds highly suspect.
My comment still stands: we have no âactualâ account of what the delay is, or at least not what I would consider a âplausibleâ account.
I am glad to wait, whatever the reason - it is a work of ART after all, no need to rush a work of creativity.
