Adams plans 1,700 homes on city-owned Williamsburg, East Harlem sites
At 390 Kent Ave., just south of the Williamsburg Bridge, the city will ask private developers to propose a project with at least 900 apartments, one-quarter of which would be designated affordable. The site is now home to an aging 72-year-old building that serves the departments of Transportation and Citywide Administrative Services, and stands out as Williamsburg’s only remaining underutilized waterfront site, according to the mayor’s office.

But both projects remain years away, meaning a different mayor could end up overseeing them - the city will not issue requests for proposals from developers until after both projects have completed a public engagement process that will get underway in the coming months. And the winning bids will need to pass through the city’s seven-month land-use review.
