NEW YORK | 350 Park Avenue | 1,575 FT | 64 FLOORS

Like y’all are really excited for 1450ft of this!?? Turning its back to most of the city. To each their own, I guess.

One of the most acclaimed buildings in London, Foster’s Cheesegrater, also has a “blank” rear wall that houses the elevators. I think that its (and 425 Park’s) “blank walls” look great. Not to mention, 350 Park’s west facade will be obscured when the adjacent building on Madison is redeveloped.

Indeed, 350 clearly plays upon the Cheesegrater’s theme, but it’s far better and vastly taller.

As with 270 Park, Foster has hit a game-winning, World Series winning walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the Ninth with 350 Park. Due to its iconic design and amazing location, this will be the trophy tower in NY.

The cheesegrater’s design is superior imo. The back is not “exposed” in the same way and is cladded with a similar material to the rest of the building, forming a more elegant, harmonious whole. You don’t notice that it’s the “service area” of the building the way you do with 350 and 425 Park, which more clearly have a butt end. And it’s not a nice butt. Yuck!

I’d much rather this dressed up core than what we’re getting:

I agree with @streetscaper, the Leadenhall Building (is by Richard Rogers not Foster) is a much better building in terms of how it deals with the core mass and facade, doesnt matter that this one is taller. The structure is visible and expressed as are a number of Rogers designs, you can see the elevator cars traveling up and down so it makes the facade interactive.

I understand that another development may eventually go up against the back side but it probably wont cover all of it, probably wont cover a lot of it.

Aside from that, we still don’t know if this is the final design, we know the options now in regards to financing and the tenant, etc, but not the finalized design. I personally hope it changes some.

I forgot that Rogers did the Cheesegrater. I confuse the projects that he and Foster did around that time.

Anyway, I love this design.

I must be nuts or is everything happening in 2024.

Guaranteed:
PA Bus Terminal
Penn Station/Complex
175 Park Ave construction
270 Park Ave topped out
NYCFC stadium
5 WTC
ETC…

Possibility:
2 WTC (Hopefully the WTC complex will finally be completed before the world ends or I die)
350 Park Ave
Phase 2 HY
Affirmation Tower (If selected)
3 Hudson Blvd
ETC…

^Maybe I’ve missed something, but where/when has it been guaranteed that PA Bus Terminal, Penn Station Complex and 5 WTC are moving forward in 2024? I’m not sure even 175 Park construction is absolutely guaranteed for then either.

I wouldn’t necessarily say guaranteed (I can’t speak to, and it’s difficult to infer on their respective timelines, the PABT and ESC) but 5 WTC is still currently scheduled to begin construction next year. As for 175 Park Ave, it wouldn’t exactly be construction, but demolition would probably be ongoing in 2024.

Bring it on! There’s a lot of demand for whatever space that Mr. Griffen does not need. He’d make a fortune here.

I know it’s part of the proposal, but it’s sad to see 39 E 51st St go, it’s a beautiful little townhouse office building. But on the other hand, at least it is included in the proposal so that it isn’t left alone and just squashed awkwardly between 2 buildings like so many other townhouse buildings.

I agree, but I’m more than willing to see it go in order to get an iconic new super tower on Park. Ken Griffen makes no small plans. Not to mention, he’ll be even more incentivized when he sees that the overwhelming majority of people want to remain in NY, the financial capital of the world, and not go to Miami. I love South Florida. I visit family there every year. It does not remotely hold a candle to NY in any respect.

I think the discussion about Citadel involving NY and Miami as it relates to conversations spoken on SkyscraperPage is strange, because companies can have HQ’s in one location and still have offices elsewhere with more employees sometimes, I don’t think one is affecting the development or movement of the other. Otherwise, Citadel just wouldn’t have established itself in Miami. This is especially true considering their temporary Miami HQ lease is only for 90,000 sqft, which of course is nothing compared to the proposed 1.6 million sqft of their could be development in NYC.

Citadel had an amazing year. $28 billion in revenue. This will be a spectacular palace for one of the masters of the universe.

Indeed, my good man!

All hail Ken Griffen!

In due time, my friend. In due time.

It’s really incredible.

JPMorgan Chase, Citadel, Blackstone (probably), and American Express (hopefully) building brand new 1,350+ towers.
