Imperfect world…yet those beautiful old buildings further up 5th were destroyed. Wish they gutted those and saved the facade at least. That seems to happen in other cities more.
I agree

Blegh.
It’s ok, but this corner is a TRILLION times better than it was.
With respect to getting rid of sh.it, I’d take a glass box over this hideous garbage on Fifth and 32nd St any day.
This is a modest - but attractive - architectural design. This condo is not ‘technically’ a glass box; those solid vertical panel sections soften the look of the facade a lot. That same form factor is done in all glass facades a lot in NYC; got to give them credit for adding those solid vertical sections that run the full height of the building.
277 Fifth Avenue - a look inside. There is no interior wood trim other than a simple baseboard: nice. Also ‘dropped sheetrock ceiling’ - does not go full height all the way to the concrete slab: nice too.
Those long thin dark recessed ‘slits’ in the ceiling along the window are probably AC and OR central heating/cooling ducts - not sure, but see them a lot in new condo apartments.

Great look up shot
Thanks!
Although this design is bland, this building’s materials are high quality. Overall, this is a COLOSSAL improvement over how terrible this corner used to be even despite the loss of some nice structures.
The ceiling heights are perfect; not too high to make cooling/heating room temperatures difficult - and not too low as to feel claustrophobic.
The floor-to-ceiling windows clearly provide great expansive views, plenty of light; but my preference would be large ‘punch’ windows. There is something to be said about having a solid wall between the interior of your apartment, and the world outside - that is however a very subjective, personal preference.
The interiors are well done here; room size, proportions, finishes all well thought through by the designers. I also like those odd ‘cubby’ outdoor spaces that some of the apartments have; one can stand outside but there still is a sense of enclose in those box-like terraces.
