Yes they are. It’s delusional to think otherwise. This isn’t the 60s.
China’s GDP per capita is 1/6th of the United States.
Okay??? Your point? The US has a GDP per captia double that of France or Italy and almost triple that of Spain. Again that’s delusional.
MCart,
Please don’t derail the thread.
Robert, please don’t derail the thread
There is nothing delusional about facts. GDP per capita is a very important metric in determining whether a country is developed or not. The USA’s military, economic, and cultural might is simply unparalleled. No serious academic would consider China or Russia to be a peer.
As a matter of fact, for a country with 1 billion people, China is incredibly weak. As the esteemed Walpole has already noted, many of those towers are half empty, are built with relative slave labor, and have fueled a real estate crisis that could rock China to its very foundation in the coming years.
Back to 270 Park.
Can someone remove Mcart’s posts?
Nobody said anything about being a “peer”. We were talking about being developed, which they are.
And Robert, did you just associate me with a dictator because I can recognize that the second strongest economic power in the world isn’t a backwater anymore? You can say whatever about russia now because of all the sanctions but you’re delusional about china
Yeah are you just taking a long break?
Thanks, Matt.
That’s what it looked like when I saw the Madison Avenue renderings of the base. Will it be something like the Waterwall at Paley Park? Everything about this tower will be amazing.
Maybe it’s because of the perspective and elevation
Russia has always been an impoverished nation outside of St P and Moscow. It’s true they have some nice skyscrapers there. But the vast majority of Russians live in a reality that is thoroughly undeveloped. Their economy was in shambles even before this invasion. Many Russians earn single digit dollars per day. Not even purchasing power adjustments can call that a developed income.
China is a different story. Quality of life is on the rise— but it is still not comparable to the ‘developed world’. people are starving in Shanghai for no reason, and a million + citizens are in reeducation gulags for ethnic cleaning. The average life of the working poor in big cities like Shenzhen is awful. Just because they have a lot of technology and the overall country is quite powerful on the world stage does not mean that it is part of the ‘developed world’ in the sense that, say, South Korea or Canada is ‘developed’— high standards in healthcare, education, income, law, etc.
I love the crown at night. The building looks like a lighthouse, a true landmark.
Yeah I like the “fullness” of it, kinda like 1 Vandy even if they’re different shapes
I was hoping for a night lighting scheme like the Bank of China in Hong Kong given the side bracing.
The lobby is amazing and almost cathedral/Grand Central like. The crown looks like it can actually upstage the ESB lighting at night, looks huge. This is a winner, fitting for a city like NYC!
Mccart, I have personally visited China and been to every “Tier 1” city and a few others that are the lowest tier possible. If you want to talk to my privately about it, please feel free to message me.
China’s cities have all the glitz and glamor on with taller buildings, more advanced technology, and extensive world-class infrastructure systems compared to those in cities in the United States. But there is a lot more required to be considered “developed.” While Shanghai has nightly light shows with lasers and drones, and there is a zippy maglev zooming through, to walk through and live in the city is a different story.
China’s face to the world and what it is inside are two different stories. Since China’s media is state-run, they will only show you what they want you to see. If you think the media here shows bad things about China, that’s what was able to escape. Imagine then how much worse the situation is there.
This looks amazing. I’d say it’s probably going to be one of my top 5 in the city. I’m hoping they put this kinda work into 2wtc
But let’s talk about 270 Park Avenue now. I think this building’s location is perfect to move the skyline silhouette back to midtown rather than Central Park.
