I honestly like the massing more on that one, but I still love what we should hopefully be getting.
Much prefer the design of the east/west facade in this rendering. The simple vertical banding harmonizes with the north/south facade unifying the entire design.
So much better, in my view, than the comically over-large and visually distracting diamond bracing.
That said, I prefer just about everything else (coloration, massing, base design, etc.) from the rendering seen earlier.
I despise NYS government - I think NYC should have the ability to secede from the state ($2B more goes to Albany than the city receives back in projects and services), but the lack of infrastructure investment is a nationwide problem.
The lack of an infrastructure bill is the result of indifference in the executive branch and Congress.
If we want to be real we should slash military funding by a 20%, abandon Afghanistan and the Middle East and boom - enough $ for an immense infrastructure bill ($100B/ year at least).
That NY spends more on Medicaid than Ca, Fl, and Tex is absurd.
That pretty much goes for the entire country.
Blue states and counties are net contributors to the federal budget and their money goes to more poorer rural states / counties (aka Trumpland).
The rural areas take the money from the urban ones.
According to commenters in the YIMBY Instagram of this story, the ATCHAIN rendering may actually be the current iteration of the design. I actually would not be surprised, apparently balancing the mass of the tower on the western side of the site helps re: the tracks down below / core situation, and also, crossbeams etc are $$$. I actually like this version a lot, the more I look at it.
It matches neither the leaked images from the brochure, nor what was shown to the city. It also lacks the outdoor plaza at the base, which the model attained by cutting out the bottom. Lastly, everything on that website is out of date (e.g., the proposed Chicago Tribune Tower that looks like 432 Park).
As far as money goes, JPMC does not need to cut costs.
It would really suck Dick Cavett and Don Johnson if this were the latest design.
I don’t take anything seriously from ATCHAIN. They’re mostly old renderings or proposals.
Plus I love the diamonds. They add something new to the skyline.
Plus if the diamonds are lit up like this, it’s going to be incredible.
I doubt JP would back down from that original design just because of the cost of cross beams.
I have faith in this one respecting "good design"more than any other.
Earlier this year JP Morgan announced they were redesigning their HQ to include more Public space. The ATCHAIN render may be an old version because their is little public space in the render
That’s the thing about design being in the eye of the beholder. Maybe Jamie Dimon decided – as a few of us seem to think – that the cross-bracing and copper cladding were actually just tacky.
This HAS to be the final design. The atchain render doesn’t have the POPS that was required by city council, this is the one that was shown in the meeting about the public space months ago
I agree / also thought it was final but I believe the YIMBY commenter is working on the project (although cannot confirm). Perhaps the plaza is on the western side of the tower in the ATCHAIN rendering? IDK.
The one insider that we’re aware of said that the base is amazing. The Atchain design has a mundane base.
They really do have her wrapped in a funeral shroud, it looks like.
