Elements of the E/W facing sides that wrap-around or extend to the N/S sides will be lit up, so in a sense it will be lit from top to bottom on all 4 sides, but its just that the lighting specifically facing the N/S does not go all the way down the tower.
Thanks for the clarification.
I wonder what the purpose of having these intense strip lights is? If the building has cove lighting going all the way up (and looks better IMO), it seems a little redundant. My guess would be that it’s related to Foster’s lantern vision.
This gives us confirmation that they’re testing the north facing side as well since that’s where the construction elevator is.
Lord Norman thinking - “jolly good point”…
Photos taken from that great article about Norman Foster in the New Yorker Magazine.
Looks like part of CPT’s southern facing lights are blown out again…
I love that 270’s lights are bright.
Great pics! Nice to see the base coming together with those panels, making everything feel nearly complete Once fully lit, this will likely be one of THE most recognizable buildings in 21st-century NYC!
Thank god we finally have a tower with amazing lighting.
If anyone hasn’t, please look up Guangzhou at night. NY may have the best skyline in the world in the daytime (my opinion) but it has been surpassed many times over at night.
I wish more new towers in NYC were as ambitious as this one with their lighting. The full lighting will look absolutely stunning at night. We need towers with epic lighting like this along the Hudson and East River where some of the best visuals are to be had..
If the Wynn gets built as-is, I have a feeling it’ll be an awe-inspiring tower day and night!
china (honestly, Asia as a whole) knows how to make good lighting. so sad lighting isn’t taken as seriously over here as they do there.
It’s all about the Benjamins.
It’s also about taste levels.
Is it also tasteful when what little lighting some of the buildings have are not properly maintained? It looks pathetic for a city that is supposed to be the financial capital of this country. All this money spent and we don’t properly light (in design and maintenance) any of the architectural features of our investments in the city that supposedly never sleeps. NY at night may as well be overdosing on NyQuil.
“city that never sleeps” yet our skyline is asleep
How is the skyline asleep ? I have lights in China, they over do it. I wouldnt what that in NYC. To each its own.
