I doubt it, this lobby isn’t really a public lobby, nor does the lobby/tower have public features or amenities that are comparable/allow the public to enter the lobby of CTC. I suspect if someone just wanders in that doesn’t look like they work in the tower, they’ll probably be asked to leave.
I love that lobby ceiling.
While in the city, I checked out 270 Park and stuck my camera up to one of the windows on the construction fencing and saw floor tiles being installed in the lobby. Construction is at least 1/3 complete in the lobby as one side has lighting, wall cladding and other finishes already installed and work is moving towards the middle of the lobby.
The angled structural beams are not yet covered, though.
The Eastern-facing side is also almost fully covered, having been the site of an additional construction elevator.
Sounds like they are trying to finish up things in the lobby because the trading floors might already be being fitted out.
Isn’t the lobby typically last to be finished? At this rate seems like they’d be done with it by the end of the year… seems like an odd decision.
Edit: For reference, the posters in their current HQ lobby suggest the building will be complete by summer 2025, which I assume will just be when the first set of employees moves in.
Not necessarily, the client can specify if they want portions of the building to open early before a “grand” opening of the full building, that typically requires that the lobby also be fully fitout so that tenants can begin using it.
The finish date on the poster you’re refering to could refer to that “grand” opening date, but tenants typically move in far before this date.
This was the case for One Madison, the lobby was completed in Nov/Dec 2023, but the building didnt have an official opening until I believe June of this year where as a lot of the tenants had already moved in.
I interviewed in the Sears tower before it was finished.
I thought the base was supposed to be more open and airy why are they encasing it now?
I meant they are encasing the structural elements (columns, etc)
oh that makes more sense, duh jaxin
Ah, there’s those co-gen exhaust pipes sticking out the side of the building, I was wondering where they were since I hadn’t seen them until both of @JC_Heights and @Alemel recent photos, probably because I am never in a vantage point where they are visible. Those exhaust pipes are massive though.
Looking back on the progress of 270 since those earlier days waiting for the former building to come down, it’s incredible seeing what was:
What could’ve been:
And the final months of external work as this wraps up! Now to just hope this looks as great at night as the renders make us believe!
