NEW YORK | 270 Park Ave | 1,389 FT | 70 FLOORS

a bunch of thin metal bars

The steel members making up the crown (or any other part of the building for that matter) are anything but small, much less resembling anything remotely close to a metal bar/pole that’s for certain.

The cross section of the columns making up the crown are nearly 2’x2’, and the beams range from 2’ to nearly 6’ in depth. That’s anything but small, especially for crown structure.

Scaffolding bars wouldnt have the same impact to the viewers eye because you wouldnt even see the members from far away.

It looks like they finished putting in the last of the cooling tower units (7 in total) from TK2000’s update. This coincides with the length of the catwalk platform beneath them (above L59) and they can not put more because they block the opening in L60 left open for them to be placed.

It appears that, but for the opening in L60 that needs to be closed, all primary superstructure steel work is completed.

Now they just need to lift the last 2 BMUs into place.

I like how this building looks taller than 1 Vandy even though it’s not. True height buildings like this one and CPT are better than spired ‘cheaters’ any day.

Question for you, TKDV, you refer to L59 and L60 which I assume L stands for level, yet the title says 70 floors. Am I missing something here?

Sure :+1:t2: your first assumption is correct that what I am referring to are levels(L) 59 and 60.

The floor count in the title is probably reflective of what JPMC is marketing the building as having, probably due to the large height of the mech floors. This is typical in buildings with large mech floors. But physically, there are really only 60 floors in the building. Another reason for this is the building could have originally had 70 floors but that changed as the building design was developed and finalized.

Another example would be how with the ESB there is not really 16 floors between the 86th and 102nd floor observation decks.

That is a perfect example (ESB), thank you. :slightly_smiling_face:

Has anyone found the topping out beam within the structure? I’d assume they would put it on the perimeter of the structure, and I hope they didn’t put it in ine if the floors. When they topped out the floors in November, the structure was slightly over halfway up the fourth tier

There was a camera/gopro attached to the beam and im sure that footage will eventually be shared, but after lifting it it was wrapped (probably to protect it) and then installed as part of the intermediate steel (as a member not on the perimeter) between L58/the top of T4, and L59, where it remains rapped. It probably wont be unwrapped until cladding covers it and we wont be able to see it anymore.

I didn’t realize you could see it from that spot. That’s the best view I’ve seen so far. It’s hard to see from other angles in the city.

Thank you for that information! Though it’s wrapped, has anyone captured it?
