Halfway thru the third tier:
Awesome photo set. Your first pic… goodbye 1 Vanderbilt.
I noticed from uptown when looking south on Madison and Park, this tower is slowly obstructing and taking over 1 Vanderbilt. Even sight lines for behemoths don’t last long in this city.
Looks like they stopped installing the construction elevator on the east side
Yep, there’s no need for it to continue since the floor plates are smaller and it’d have too extend to far over (+80’) to reach the third tier which would then become a hazard as it could topple in high winds. That one was always the secondary elevator, the main one is on the 48th st side.
Well,if you really putting yourself into it,like really zooming into the pic, specially observing towards its elevator shaft of its eastern section, then you would still observe 1VB (mostly its top/crown and spire and some top floors; different fades of blue.Look at the slightest contrast to the surrounding sky) slightly between cracks or penings of levels of the shaft.Even more of course, when it’s all are finally dismantled at the end of the day, which it’s still could or would take a while into the not too distant future.Yeah.I’m just saying:sweat_smile:

I can name a few of the famous neighbors: Met life, 423 Park, Chrysler Bldg, 111 W 57…thats all I know - but there are few more iconic towers one can see from this vantage point.
OH, also, One Vanderbilt…AND Empire State.
Amazing how after almost 100 years ESB still outshines them all.
Yes. It’s substantial.
