lol… Should we tear down the Empire State Building and build a megatall condo too? All in the name and spirit of Yimbyism?
Delusion is building sticks like this tower that provide absolute 0 value to the area. 26 units of which at best, 13 would actually be used at all, the rest are to launder money.
There are countless opportunities that aren’t too close to the ESB. I could reason with this more if we were talking about a tower that helps lower the housing crisis with more units at a reasonable price, but this tower is becoming a sarcastic joke, it’s not about this butthurt yimby-nimby argument.
man the hypocrisy in here is unreal.
this is NEW YORK where the only constant is change. no one gives a shit about some precious sightlines and aesthetics from a bygone era, when money is on the line.
despite what all the pearl clutchers south of 59th street would have you believe, we don’t actually live in a diorama, but in fact a dynamic, breathing, flexible place full of people from all walks of life. nyc can be as ugly as it is beautiful, and that’s just part of its charm.
you don’t have to like it, as is your right! but new york doesn’t bend to subjective, aesthetic trends - it stands in the face of it.
don’t like this new building? get on line, because there will be hundreds more, in even “worse” locations than this, once the market conditions demand them.
The model for control is San Francisco in USA. Design choices, shadow studies etc. are all considered. Here we can only do this in landmarked districts.
Nice perspective on this update.
I don’t mind the glass, but a whole blank wall made out of these, it’s a tragedy
well what else are you going to do with all the spent artillery casings you have lying around, comrade?
I knew it would be so, but Oh no no no…
Welp, guess someone has to buy the whole thing, tear it down and build something else…
Yup, this one officially sucks. Very grey, 50’s Eastern Blockish…
The rock pattern is cool… for a highway wall.
I do like that pattern effect. To make it better, they should’ve increased the size of each section, so the play on natural light can be seen farther away. But, it’s still fine by me!
From a distance it kind of looks like aluminum foil that has been crumpled up and then flattened out in long rolls. Wonder if there are any good leftovers hidden away.
I want to be positive but the best thing that I can come up with is that it looks horrendous
I’m sorry but this is such a hideous building and yes it’s a mighty shame it has ruined the sight line from the Flatiron district. I like to think of being as pro development as the next person but building random stuff like this…leave that for Hong Kong.
I think this needs more time to come together before we have all this negativity. It doesn’t seem like it’ll be the nicest design but I don’t see how this is any worse than something like Central Park tower. At least it’s unique
Being unique isn’t a precedent for something being good. It’d be better if it wasn’t trying so hard to be unique.
At this point one doesnt need to see much more to start forming a final judgement because we now know the east wall will be the crumpled aluminum foil, where the crookedness of the panelization will become more apparent due to the small nature of the extruded aluminum pieces. And will become even more so apparent because the pattern repeats every single panel. Even if there were some 5 odd variants of the compositions of the panels that wouldve made a difference but they couldnt even be unique about that.
Right, but most of that won’t be readily apparent unless you’re looking at the panels from close up. Probably won’t be visible for most people that just see the building in the skyline.
That’s true, but I dont think you have to be that close to see how misaligned the actual panels are, not the individual pieces.
Can’t believe we are getting an 860 ft blank wall facing 5th avenue. It’s bad enough when these blanks walls face the interior of the block, but this is insane. There was zero pride taken in this design
