From the north looking south
Coming into view on EarthCam, from a few moments ago:
I guess we will partially lose the view of the Flatiron on this cam eventually.
The Flatiron building I believe would be fully obscured from this camera’s vantage point based on point perspective analysis. The full width of the building will continue in the path of the Flatiron, whether it’s eventual topping out point blocks the entire building is in question though, but it should block all of it simply by looking at the Ritz Carlton’s 580’ figure.
It’s difficult to measure how tall it is based off of the fact that there are no “full” length diagrams that show the new shortened iteration, but it appears to be atleast 2/5th of its projected height (around ~340’) following the known height of other neighboring buildings.
Nice find! This (and the other ESB camera)with negate me having to go see this building on my walks!
Jokes aside, they really are taking their sweet time putting up the safety cocoon.
Oh wow this is moving fast, could it top out this year?
Meh, it’s possible, but considering it didn’t really start rising until December and its taken 6-7 months to reach 2/5th its height, thats a difficult probability to make.
The aerial photos are nice to see.
It will be sometime before this tower is visible from Edge where it will eventually pop up behind The Beatrice (the large tower in the foreground behind Two MW and to the left of The Ritz Carlton). But the crane could become visible soon.
I guess this must be some sort of architectural oddity: “only 26 units”.
I find the architectural design of this building to be quite ‘special’ too. This description really got my interest; maybe only media hype - but I like the concept.
The building itself is guided by some unique concepts: The form of the skyscraper is shaped by a unique structural system that separates the building’s functioning core (elevators, mechanical systems, etc.) from its living spaces. This creates expansive, unobstructed, column-free and customizable full-floor residences — an inventive design solution. Two signature elements when viewed from the outside: The eastern facade will be aluminum and glass, with perforated oversized “porthole” shaped windows. And at the top, a metal frame will shelter an arched observation deck for residents. On the north and south, three 15-foot wide floor-to-ceiling window walls will have uninhibited panoramic views of the city and beyond.

@infoshare lol please stop quoting the description of the initial iteration, we’ve already been over this that it is not relevant anymore in how absolutely wrong it is in trying to describe the building like it’s SO revolutionary…, we get that you like the building, but quoting the same outdated thing over and over isn’t helping anyone new that visits this thread and sees the outdated information.
Anywho, I don’t find the figure that strange at all as it would just mean that each unit (or the majority of them) would be atleast 2 floors tall.
Isn’t it still going to basically look the same as it did in prior renderings (e.g., aluminum facade with portholes on the Fifth Avenue side)?
My gosh, if you do not like my post, just scroll on by…HeHe. This is a public casual interest forum - we are not writing for ENR or Archectural Record. So, relax…it is all good…
I am glad to see your posts, and have a real architect adding content - but you tend to be a bit to critical.
Let’s keep this place fun, and everybody get along.
Yes, there is no significant change in the general appearance. I know your not keen on this one - but I find it to be quite innovative, attractive, quirky and mostly - “Avant Gard”.
Cheers
