Definitely topped now
Same sort of tapering shape as Steinway but hardly the same otherwise. The overall design and material selection of 200 are fairly mundane compared to Steinway. 200 is not a great building. It fits well with all the other so-so or bad buildings around it. But, of course, that is hardly a plus. Doesn’t come close to the Stern building further up Broadway at 81st Street. It’s most serious claim to fame is simply the height.
Lincoln Square is mired in mediocrity and outright turkeys. It’s a good area, and the interiors and views are good in a lot of the apartments, but it’s full of junk.
Hard to disagree. We live in a great place we redid but the building exterior is hideous.
I agree
Court order requiring developer to take about 20 floors off this building for violating zoning laws. West Side Rag Judge Rules Permits for 200 Amsterdam Avenue Should Be Revoked, and Building Reduced in Size – West Side Rag. As I’ve been suggesting all along the zoning lot arguments here had legs. The order certainly will be appealed.
Will be appealed and defeated, but the damage to the city’s housing market is severe.
These NIMBYs are the biggest threat to the city’s future vitality. They’re essentially gangsters, suing endlessly till they find a sympathetic judge, knowing they’ll lose in the end, but intentionally inflicting severe damage to the city’s housing market.
Two sides to every coin. PS I like this building.
