Larry lives in a penthouse at 30 Park Place. In his shoes I’d make sure 2 WTC wasn’t built until after my death so my view and peace and quiet weren’t affected by construction.

More looks. Even though before the Foster design “reveal” I suggested that metal highlights like 3 WTC would be a good idea to transfer the lighting. I don’t see any synchronization with the modern complex

If we speak of lighting! The diamonds would casually shine at afternoons roughly just as T1’s slanted plane does (saw the pic on IG but don’t remember who took it).

One thing I cant help but notice too about all the new renders of the spire version is they seem to also made the foot print of the building smaller by taking away the last section facing church street. Before hand all the renders showed the North and south faces split into 6 sections as seen below.
All the newer stuff only shows 5
Now I now when they built the original foundation they didn’t build out all the way to church street which is how we ended up getting the beer garden area. That area is built inside the original footprint plans. So my question is, did they also decide not to extend outward and build on whats already there? Or did they just increase the length of the sections?

Thanks for this. Now you’re reminding me why I disliked the move away from the diamonds in the first place. The entire bs reason they had for chopping the spires from 3WTC was the BIG redesign in 2015. They wanted 3WTC be more comprehensive/responsive with 2WTC after that. Of course they likely just wanted to VE those spires out, but still they had a public excuse with the diamonds being chopped.
And now the fact that they stuck a spire on 2WTC where it looks like an afterthought actually makes me frustrated as hell with how 3WTC turned out. I think it balanced the skyline better to go spire, no spire, spire(s), no spire for 1-4WTC respectively.
If it’s not too much to ask, could you model 2WTC with 4 spires come out of the tallest tube? They may look better if they reach the original height of what Foster came out with a few years ago. We are living in bizarro world anyway so I’d like to see how that would look. Again, no obligation, just something about the single spire is so dissatisfying in its placement unlike 1WTC where it looks natural and great.

I had initially thought that they extended the sections but they would’ve appeared much more elongated to make up for the lost area. And the render wouldve showed the building filling in more of the empty space where the group of trees are. It seems more likely that they are working with what was actually built already.

Yup, the angle of the 2006/2011 design would’ve intentionally angle down towards the corners of BOTH the former north and south towers. Now we have this modern design that only manipulates it’s massing for modern tenants

The optics would’ve paired the two towers so well. Now were getting a design that makes one regret the whole Tower 2 thing. Aint a shame

Thats what i thought too, that they were just building on whats already there. Maybe they plan to utilize the extra space for outdoor events or something

That’s right. They’re giving up on the part that extends outside of the bathtub (and has no roots yet iirc). It sits above the subway station there/nearby.
The full footprint of the original tower is vast.

I could accept just a height cut, I’m used to disappointment. But the complete and total twinkification of this tower is what stings. Something this short and this thin won’t be able to properly fill that massive skyline gap.

They should’ve build 2WTC togerther with 3 & 4 on spec. and be done with it. It’s not that the current towers are ghost skyscapers waiting for decades to get tenants…2WTC would’ve been filled instead of waiting for a big fish and the best suitable window between recessions in the economy.
To end it in a more positive manner, negotiations are still going. So there’s still hope.

Funny how Silverstein dumped Libeskind from the site for being unable to properly design skyscrapers - which he’s unable to construct (T2, T5, ceding T1).

All of your massings portray the roof as remarkably shorter than 1230ft.
Since the $7B Avenir is dead (which would’ve required SP to put some of their own equity to finance with loans and partners), maybe there’s a chance that it wont be as short and thin as currently known.

what we got is 100% better than that Libeskind windmill spire crap. An actual substantial supertall rivaling the twin towers. Not a squat office bloc with an even sillier antenna.

the Libeskind plan was visionary and unique, not that it should have been chosen given that much better entries were proposed during the design process
instead, what we got was the initial plan proposed by the Port Authority before the design process, albeit still incomplete 25 years later

Libeskinds Design were More Better But had His Towers Were Built It would’ve been more iconic (in my opinion) But What We Have now is a Different Version of that
