wow that view corridor to Greenpoint and LIC is sublime
There are two categories of high rise structures along that view corridor: they are either ‘a building’ or they are ‘Architecture’. This new tower at 18 India is merely “a building”. I do not here intend to denigrate the overall design of this building: the construction/solidity is most likely fine, the program/usefulness is not doubt well planned out - but it does not ‘delight’ aesthetically speaking.
It is all about the Vitruvian Triad with me these days…
My point is that It does not possess delight/beauty in accordance with the Vitruvian Triad for GOOD ARCHITECTURE - usefulness/beauty/solidity. Two out of 3 ain’t bad.
There a very few new towers along that waterfront that can be called Capital A Architecture; they are simply a line-up of generic “buildings”.
BTW - one block away from 18 India Street is a house with Capital H Halloween decorations.
Now that is what I call - delight.
Really nice - This project has a lot of good details, looks much better close up than from afar.
Australian developer Lendlease recently announced that their 1 Java project, now dubbed “The Riverie,” will start leasing next year.
The waterfront property, comprising one block of India, Java and West streets, will house 834 units across two residential towers, topping out at 37 and 20 stories. 30% of the units are designated affordable under the Affordable New York Housing Program (a housing lottery will go live early next year, check if you’re eligible here).
A mixed-use project, the Riverie also contains 13,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
I wonder if they plan to clad the concrete pillars, or if they’ll just leave them bare like its neighbor
That brick at the base looks weird (at least in this photo)
