Posting and finishing whatever I can before I can no longer share or provide visual informative stuff or renders.
Except for the hideous Penn 15 this is amazing. Incredible too that the entire Grand Hyatt goes from being Grand Central’s doormat to having all its rooms look down on the Chrysler building.
Nice rendering!
Awesome!!
I like the new building and if you want to see the Chrysler building in 2022 you have to go extremely out of your way to see it anyways. Any time I have friends or family visiting we have to make an extra detour almost a block out of Grand Central and to the south side of the street to even spot it. Otherwise, I never see it anyways. You have not been able to see it for probably decades. It just is too short and too many bigger buildings around it. It’s a bad location to be visible. Since it’s already hidden, I say any backlash is silly and I would ask those people when was the last time they even saw the Chrysler, unless they were within a block or two from it. Plus this new building is beautiful and epic.
I agree. The new tower is going to be stunning, as seen in Xing’s gorgeous rendering.

This is very true, I barely see it from the west as it is. I really only see it from the south when I’m partying downtown on the east side (east village, lower east side, chinatown) or from the east in LIC or Brooklyn.
Maybe they can remove the crown, add 30 or so floors and then put the crown back on.
@GSPLover, Funny enough, I think there was actually an idea to do that to either the Chrysler or Empire State Building. I just can’t remember which one the idea was for.
As for the overall topic of this tower and the Chrysler Building, I don’t believe the critical commentary is so much about seeing it from street level (as some are arguing here) more than it is about it’s impact on the skyline view of the Chrysler. The street argument goes for really any building in NYC, you can’t see a number of the icons until a few blocks away from certain vantage points. The criticism is more about how it looks like it’s basically eating the Chrysler Building due to it’s “large” looming massing. It’s still quite visible from almost every direction even in the west factoring One Vanderbilt into the equation. But since this building is obviously closer it will block that peripheral view of it.
But like @the726 said before, the B1M video is really clickbaiting with it’s recent video title in saying “Chrysler Building is Being Covered Up”. I’m all for this development, though I still don’t really care for the design, but like I think I said earlier, one can’t deny that the massing looks disproportionate to it’s surroundings, like it should’ve been taller while being more narrow and slim, rather than appearing kind of chubby.
I’d be surprised if the Chrysler is not converted to a hotel/condo in ten years. It’s class c office space.
What a beautiful building. It gives me goosebumps.
I wouldn’t mind a plan to make the ESB and the Chrysler building taller. Those two buildings are too iconic to get lost in the skyline.
That would completely damage the proportions of both buildings. Not everything is about height.
It’s not necessarily about height, but rather keeping them prominent in the skyline. With all these new skyscrapers rising, these two iconic buildings will eventually be lost in the skylines.
I was struggling with this one due to the perspective, and I don’t think I did @NewYorkCity76’s original photo justice, but here’s this view from One Vanderbilt.
I may be posting another view tomorrow.
Imagine being 1,200 ft up in a building, looking outside the Window and having to look up. So awesome.
I am so intensely hyped for this thing
This looks awesome! What’s the tall & wide building on the far left? Looks like it’d be 1300’+
