NEW YORK | 175 Park Avenue (Grand Hyatt) | 1,580 FT | 83 FLOORS

I hope so. I want this building to be 2000 feet!

there is no reality where this tower will be 1118ft. The variations will be granted.

Mcart, are you involved with this project at all? It would be nice to have some inside info like we have for 270 Park.

Sorry, unfortunately not. I wish I was though.

The City Planning Vote is on the 18th, that’s less than 4 days from now.

175 Park passes the city planning vote, on to the city council (where I believe it will pass as well).
9 in favor, 1 opposed.
And might I say the one in opposition’s reason for his opposition was dumb at best.

From the person that opposed it: “where we could have had a plaza between Grand Central and the Chrysler Building, we have a building that will completely overpower both…you know a number of people have commented that the project should be reduced in scale”

Me: So I guess there isn’t a problem where a 1400ft+ structure next door overpower Grand Central then?

By the way, the guy did admit that he is not opposed to density or tall buildings

lol that dude really said that because 175’s public space is raised it’s not gonna work well. What does that even mean :joy:

Me: Ever heard of stairs?? They are there for a reason

But yeah seriously what does that even mean

But on his plaza comment, does this guy not realize the state of the location he’s speaking of?
On the opposite side of GCS, there’s Vanderbilt’s Plaza, with GCS’s huge indoor space, East Side Access will be open in less than a year, and 175 will have a huge elevated public space.

Exactly! It’ll be an improvement to pedestrians.

But hey I guess One Vanderbilt is nonexistent to him lol

Him not opposed to density and tall buildings, but yet claiming that 175 park overpowers both Grand Central and the Chrysler Building

Frankly, I agree with him that it overpowers the Chrysler building. But this was always going to happen, it’s Midtown East, after all, at least it’s this amazing building and not some bland POS. And it is not a reason to stop the project, NYC is not a museum and it should never try to become one.
As for GCS, no it really doesn’t. Not any more than has been the case for at least 100 years now.

When does the city council decide on this?

Yeah I see your logic on this. Grand Central has been overpowered by many buildings since the 19th century, including the metlife building

No idea, I remember reading it somewhere but I"ll have to go find it again.
