DISGUSTING and

DISGRACEFUL

I think they might be redesigning the building because there isn’t really activity going on, hoping they don’t raze they two other buildings.

So Low is reprehensible and has no respect for New York’s architectural treasures. He’ll raze the other towers.

I’ll be honest, I do agree it’s disgraceful. But I do expect older buildings to be demolished for new ones, so I’m 50/50 with these decisions

There’s a lot of crap that can come down. These were gorgeous.

This is the kind of shit that makes me not like NYC. You never see this in Chicago or Toronto. They either build on empty lots, tear down crap, or particularly in Toronto’s case, incorporate the old buildings into the base of the new tower. In fact Toronto even goes a bit overboard on that, incorporating in old buildings that weren’t even that special.

NYC is constantly tearing down gems that in almost any other city would be considered an untouchable landmark.

Other than the corner lots on 5th ave, this stretch of 57th will be a combination of empty lots and empty storefronts, probably for quite a while. (empty lots in red, probable lot in orange) + many vacant stores not marked.

I’m kinda surprised that the empty lots aren’t be taken over by camps of the homeless.

I agree. It’s a mess.

The plan for 10 W 57th also features a lot stretching through to 56th Street

The contiguous lot on 56th is very small. Maybe it will be a service entrance. I expect this building to suck, but even if a beautiful proposal emerges (which I doubt), it will not warrant the loss of these gorgeous old buildings.

TALIBAN. He should be banned from NY.

Thanks to shmucks like So Low, 57th looks like any street in Houston or Atlanta, but dirtier and with more homeless.

Like many others, I’m rapidly losing my faith in NY. We get taxed to death to support absurd social giveaways, which prompts taxpayers to flee to Florida and North Carolina.

In terms of architectural assaults, we raze gems and replace them with hideous trash like this and Macklowe’s absurd proposal. Meanwhile, in Chicago…,

I think if they had made the tower white colored like the base it would be more unique and interesting. Lots of black glass boxes in Manhattan already.

half of them erected by Solow. Him and his black box fetish. His 90 year old mind is stuck in the 70’s.
