the planned “BRT” map does contemplate bus lanes (in red below) on Whalley Avenue – but in the absence of physical obstacles/barriers and enforcement (neither of which is planned), this will just be a conveniently subsidized place for folks to block the bus by double-parking

In Madison, Connecticut (suburb of New Haven), the train station currently has just one platform. It is the only Shore Line East station where both eastbound and westbound trains can only platform on the same track. The station is now going forward with adding a second platform.
Construction to begin fall 2027.
Unfortunately they’re talking about converting the Shoreline East back to diesel trains because we can’t have nice things
I think there needs to be a lot more development around the stations because they all have massive empty parking lots
It has happened before in Connecticut. The Danbury Branch was electrified in 1925 and and de-electrified in 1961.
There should also be a station in Niantic and Stonington borough connecting it to Westerly RI
Allegedly this is happening so CTRail doesn’t have to pay Amtrak a fee to run their electric trains to save some money.
I mean I think that was a mistake
And it’s not like they’re gonna de-electrify the northeast corridor
Bad idea. Diesel has slower acceleration than electric. Will increase travel times and operating costs.
That’s part of the issue, but I think they also need the electric trains to deal with rolling-stock supply shortages on the New Haven Line (and even the Harlem Line occasionally sees the M8s).
The real reasons for this reversion?
First, Metro-North needs those Shoreline East M8’s to run elsewhere. They’ve already been sighted on the Harlem line. When equipment gets tight, the shoreline always seems to be the first place CDOT looks for “flexibility.”
What’s shocking is while CTRail is getting new coaches and dual-mode locomotives, the Shore Line East is getting older locomotives and hand-me-down coaches that lack modern amenities commuters expect after using the M8’s for so long. It’s truly a downgrade.

The design kind of reminds me of the willets point development
