Can’t believe Jersey City is growing a formidable secondary skyline out in Journal Square, all of these major scrapers will rise around the same time, will be a sight to see.
It had already been approved, 5 years ago, with essentially the same design, the same unit count, pretty much everything the same.
really loving the juxtaposition of these towers for some reason
Previously they said they’d start last March. They then have pushed back the date a couple times on the basis that interest rates are too high to obtain financing. Now they hope to start next year according to this article. Who knows, though.
Mayor Fulop is now proposing putting the museum in a 100,000 sq ft community space at the base of the much-delayed 808 Pavonia project instead of in the old Public Service trolley terminal building on Sip Ave. The deal will involve granting 808 Pavonia a PILOT, the first in 7 years granted by JC. Notably, he says the PILOT will not reduce the taxes that would be paid to the city or school district.
As planned, it would be located in Journal Square, and it would give the city ownership of 100,000 square feet of valuable community space in the heart of the city.
Speak of the devil! As soon as I posted this I went over to Twitter and saw the mayor’s tweet about this proposal. Given the last photo below, it looks like the tower will have to be 2 or 3 floors higher to accommodate the same number of apartments while incorporating the Pompidou in the base.
We’ll see, but the mayor said 808 Pavonia is scheduled to break ground in November (he had previously said it would break ground in Fall of 2023)

It’s looking more and more certain they’ll really start construction in December.
