Looks like Jeddah Tower has been resurrected once again
Per Fayez on SSC: New movement recorded for the tower (first movement from 6 years)
This could be a redesign.
The current design was finished a long time ago and VH wasn’t comissioned for early renders at that time.
looks a lot like the Illinois
Nice!!
Backround is riyad and you have their 300m kingdom tower in the backround much shorter looking than a third of its height.
So it’s possibly foster’s 2km concept, and not jeddah tower.
It’s finally reawakened!
Per OxygOZ on SSC:
GOOD NEWS!
Translated to English:
"There is nothing more beautiful than the news of the resumption of construction of the Jeddah Tower, the tallest tower in the world, except for the return of the largest construction company in the world, Bin Laden Company.
The tallest in the world will be built by the best in the world
Bin Laden Company started building the Jeddah Tower and stopped. Today, it will return and sign an agreement with Jeddah Economic Company to complete the construction of the Jeddah Tower, the tallest tower in the world."
Per vorob1715 on SSC:
Today early morning at Jeddah Tower
@Basem_Bawazeer @AmalAlHamdi https://t.co/LbosfTIy2k” / X
According to contract the Tower must be completed in 42 months.
Per HiJazzeyJazzey on SSC:
Looks like things are moving forward. Aluminium fabricator ALUPCO has signed a supply deal for Jeddah tower:
It looks almost exactly like The Illinois. This building was essentially designed in 1957.
Structure construction suggestively resumes at late March
Maybe I’m in the minority but this is one of those projects that I don’t think will ever be completed. If anything it’ll go the way of the Ryugyong Hotel. Not that I’m hoping it fails. Just a feeling.
Maybe an unpopular opinion here but I do hope it fails. It’s a product of sheer hubris for a crooked aristocracy. Basically the same as the Ryugyong Hotel in that regard. Doesn’t take a genius to guess how the workers were treated on that job site, and I think that’s reason enough to not want it to resume.
Nice!
Good point about worker conditions
Also (and I know we’re all pro-development here) I don’t think giant, billion dollar, vanity projects like this are appropriate when you could be using the money for things like affordable housing and transit improvements. It’s the same way I feel about that giant OKC tower that’s been getting publicity lately.
Per kafalsaud on SSC:
A source who works at the project told me they’re currently doing preparations and checking the safety of the structure since it’s been on hold for 7 years (he said a bunch of technical engineering terms I didn’t understand lol). Actual construction will begin in late December according to him.
