Ikr. The waterfront of a massive city is just… ugh. SO FUNNY YOU point this out. Because I posted this comment on the Coney Island group five mins ago (the post was about development in Coney Island)
This is what Coney needs!
I don’t care if it’s kitsch, cartoonish or over-the-top: come on, Coney is supposed to be an amusement area, not Amalfi or Saint Tropez.
Therefore everything that will make the nabe more colorful, playful and vibrant, it’s welcome.
You are right. That is brutal. All of that surface parking should be developments.
It could also encourage MORE redevelopment and revitalization.
This looks horrible and completely appropriate for the area at the same time. It looks straight from a scary clown movie yet somehow I find it alluring and would want to visit.
This area you highlighted used to be Luna Park; then in the 1960s it was redeveloped into housing by Fred Trump.
Parts of it are being densified - it’s just very slow. Some new development in the area you highlighted:
532 Neptune Avenue (499 rental units)
2971 Shell Road (189 rental units)

Uh oh
