"• It has yet to be determined how much access tourists and architecture buffs would have to the ornate, high-ceilinged Tribune Tower lobby, which has official landmark protection. Golub said a compromise will have to be reached regarding which hours, if any, the lobby would be open to visitors.

• The 25th-floor outdoor space beneath Tribune Tower’s flying buttresses, once an observatory open to the public and now a private event space called The Crown, will become an outdoor amenity area for residents.

• The location of some of the roughly 150 fragments of famous buildings and historic sites from around the world that are embedded in Tribune Tower’s base could be shifted to accommodate the new ground-floor retail space.

• The new tower would house a five-star hotel and 10,700 square feet of retail space. Its base, which would be wider than the thin tower, would include 430 parking spaces topped by an outdoor deck.

Under existing zoning, the Tribune site allows for 1.6 million square feet of space. The two towers, old and new, would encompass 2 million square feet. To increase the density, the developers would pay about $14 million into a city fund that seeks to encourage commercial development in struggling areas of the South and West sides, as well as $12 million into the city’s affordable housing fund."

Let’s hope that it gets built. Chicago is like Miami in that many towers are proposed but never built due to presales requirements.

This is a stunning tower but I agree with Robert that I will not get too excited until this is actually coming off the ground.
I have trust issues with Chicago and Miami.
There is no doubt that this is a stunning tower and would be an amazing addition to the skline

Add Philly to that list, many projects in the city never happened. For example, a 1,500 foot tower called the American Commerce Center was proposed on the site of what is now the Comcast Technology Center

Here’s another article offering more info:

https://www.chicagoarchitecture.org/2018/04/16/gasp-worthy-proposal-unveiled-for-chicagos-second-tallest-skyscraper/

This obviously isn’t the most official website, but I find it funny to read.
This article says that construction isn’t going to begin until Tribune Tower’s transformation is complete. So really anything could happen in the coming years. Don’t base your hopes on this tower happening, but do hope. I know I am

This is another stunning proposal for Chicago, which is why I already know it will never be built.

In a year I expect to see a render for a 700ft box instead.

I hope not.

Lets hope not. I remember the Waldorf proposal for chitown which was stunning, and somewhat resembled Shanghai’s World Financial Center.

As long as they can hurry up and get shovels on the ground, I think it’ll have a chance. Its when they drone on and wait that stuff tends to not happen. Time is of the essence!

For those who don’t know what the Waldorf site proposal looked like, it was this:

Damn shame it didn’t happen.

I hope not either, but I’ve lost faith in Miami and Chicago to get anything remarkable done, with rare exception.

I’ll be the first to celebrate if im dead wrong!

Chicago gets most things done. Miami does not. I love Miami, but it mostly builds crap.

Honestly, Chicago is probably one of the most delivering city in terms of supertalls and whatnot (besides NYC). Think of the Chicago Spire. It was approved and it started construction. That thing was gonna be 2,000 feet tall and it was approved and it started. It only stopped because of the lack of funding. Chicago is remarkable in this aspect. I fully expect this to be built along with the other 2 supertalls that have been proposed.

I agree.

Any ideas about what the “significant revisions” will be?

No height revisions! :dizzy:

Here’s an article I found about all the revisions too!

https://www.chicagoarchitecture.org/2019/11/19/113-story-michigan-avenue-tower-refined-not-chopped/

They mainly changed the base of the tower and also the traffic flow around it. I’m so glad they didn’t chop it at all. There have been so many almost supertalls built in chicago that were given a haircut that made them shorter. Luckily this is not one of them
