Baltimore’s Penn Station has completed a new platform. One more is expected to open in the fall.

In Brattleboro, Vermont, a new Amtrak platform for the existing station will soon begin construction.
While this is being promoted as the first high-level platform in Vermont, let none of us forget that Rutland station on the “Ethan Allen Express” has a “mini-high”.

Looks like some more trains on the Hudson River sector (New York City-Rensselaer) of the Empire corridor will be restored next week.
Two Amtrak train runs between New York City and Albany will be restored to service on March 4, the final step to returning regional operation to pre-Covid levels, the Empire State Passengers Association (ESPA) confirmed Thursday.
One is the early morning southbound train leaving Albany-Rensselaer at 5:10 a.m. and arriving at Rhinecliff at 5:53 a.m. before it continues southbound into the city for 7:30 a.m. arrival into Moynihan Trail Hall.
In addition, the 10:45 p.m. northbound train departing Moynihan Train Hall will also be returned to service, arriving at Rhinecliff at 12:22 a.m.
That 10:45pm departure from Penn Station arrives in Rensselaer, NY at 1:15 am. This allows folks from upstate New York (areas north of Poughkeepsie) to spend more time in the city in evenings, maybe even catch a Broadway show or a sporting event at Madison Square Garden. Right now the last train upstate on weekdays leaves Penn Station at 8:55pm.
Also, the earlier southbound train, which will arrive in New York Penn at 7:30am, is earlier than the current earliest weekday train (leaving Renssealer at 5:55 am and arriving at Penn Station at 8:15am).

Newport News, Virginia
A new Amtrak station is under construction near the airport. It will replace the existing Amtrak station. While the new station is bigger and more modern, it is much farther from downtown. The new station is expected to open this spring.

Amtrak is changing the layout of seating on its trains.
One thing for sure is I wouldn’t say I like backwards-facing seats and avoid them whenever I ride any train.
