Construction has started on the first phase of Downtown South. 20+ buildings ranging from 7 to 40 stories are anticipated at completion (expected to take 10-15 years). The site abuts a future BRT route, and a greenway/bike+ped path runs through its center.

At full build-out:

  • 3m SF office
  • 240k SF retail
  • 3,400 apartment units
  • 800 hotel rooms
  • 14+ acres of open space/parks
  • (The soccer stadium pictured below may be part of future development, but is currently on hold.)

I went to Raleigh for work a few years ago. It could use some fountains. For a place with a mild climate, it has hardly any other than one relatively lame one by the concert hall. Maybe they’ve added some in the five years or so since I visited there.
