This is a new apartment building in downtown Newark that was previously an office building
Yet another new apartment project is coming to Newark. “Elleven by Gomes” at 16-18 Oliver St. will bring 225 apartments to the city with 45 being designated as affordable.
update on 81-93 Orange Street
81-93 Orange Street or Portnow may be starting construction soon as it appears the parking lot was torn up and as the reddit user noted, we may have this alongside 22 Fulton rise at the same time
It’s amazing that they didn’t expand the highway, now we need more public transit
At 1213-1221 Broadway Street is a new apartment coming and will be called Nova by the Gomes Group with listing saying 60 units and 5 stories tall (sorry for the trees
)
The signage is now lit up. I took a pic but it was all blurry

Plus:
80-88 First Street has gotten approved recently (6 days ago)
And:
Highland Views, a two phase project with over 180 affordable senior homes in the Central Ward at the former West Village site. Ground breaking has begun.
Wouldn’t that go in the njpac redevelopment thread or the 930 mccarter one?
I just put it in general since it multiple sites in one.
Good and bad news.
Good:
The historic Griffith Building, built in 1917 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 has begun leasing just last month after years of false starts with 76 units and 20,000 square feet of ground floor retail space.
Bad:
A mixed use proposal for 150 units and 2,308 square feet of retail space at 66 South Orange Avenue has been rejected by the Newark planning board in less than a year because of over 30 NIMBY residents that showed up to the four hour board meeting.

Plus:
A 4 story middle school building is was approved by the central planning board 8-0 at 258 Jelliff Avenue and will be called the Brick Gateway Academy. It is projected to start construction late this year.
Phase 2 of The Ballantine at 412-426 Ferry Street was approved by the central planning board 7-0 and will be a 7 story, 525 unit apartment building with basement parking and will include 101 affordable units, a new supermarket and accessory parking, and amenities such as courtyards and rooftop terraces.
Hotel Riviera, located at 169 Clinton Avenue, was built in 1922 and began as a luxury hotel is now being converted into a homeless shelter, transitional housing.
New curb extensions at the intersection of Ferry Street and Alyea Street
. Wasn’t able to take a pic of the other side but there are two on both sides.
need this everywhere
Went to see Springsteen at the Prudential Center last night, Newark has the feel of a city primed for success. There is so much prime real estate that far exceeds what Jersey City had to start with 20+ years ago.

This is architectural ‘artfulness’ at it’s finest. Opulence, texture, refined detailing, stone facade; and all done in a completely contemporary style.
Give that architect an award for this one… ![]()
@infoshare where in Newark is that?
Uhoh, I think AI made a mistake here…
