Between this shutdown and the murder in Minneapolis. I think people have really reached a breaking point with our inadequate government. It’s like the 60’s.

Anger is very undertstandable during these times, but please try to stay away from the protests. There seems to be a presence of ‘professional’ rioters taking advantage of the death of George Floyd to stoke violence (anarchists, etc…)
It’s dangerous for regular people and its dangerous for the police and other first responders who had nothing to do with what happened in Minneapolis or what happened to Eric Garner and others who died and were denied due process by deplorable law enforcement officers. Stay safe.

Saw the woman from Catskills who tried to burn the cops in the van. Concerned about these people hijacking the protests. It’s a real shame— mass demonstrations can be a beautiful thing

Seeing the looting in SoHo and other parts of Midtown.
All these shop owners need guns.
This is insanity.

“ Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio will impose a curfew on New York City Monday that will last from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. as protests over the killing of George Floyd bring increased destruction throughout the five boroughs.
The shutdown is designed to discourage property damage and looting, which both men said has mainly occurred at night in contrast to otherwise peaceful protests during the days and evenings.”
“I stand behind the protesters and their message, but unfortunately there are people who are looking to take advantage of and discredit this moment for their own personal gain,” Cuomo said in a statement. “The violence and the looting that has gone on in New York City has been bad for the city, the state and this entire national movement, undermining and distracting from this righteous cause."
While the mayor had recently questioned the efficacy of curfews, earlier in the day both officials had left the possibility open after break-ins and thefts.
“There are advantages and disadvantages, to say the least, to instituting a curfew,” de Blasio said at a morning press briefing. “Previous nights, I think, were different than what we saw last night.”
The mayor and Police Commissioner Dermot Shea have said that forces from outside the city have come with an agenda of violence and property damage that was on display Sunday night. And as part of the curfew, the NYPD will be beefing up patrols. According to Cuomo there will be roughly 8,000 officers deployed Monday, nearly double the amount of previous nights.“

Hope you guys do this on July 7th, so we can tell the government we demand new laws without violence

the political situation is getting dicey over dealing with the overnight rioting. Cuomo has called out De Blasio for not doing an apt job. Worth noting that De Blasio’s daughter was arrested during the protests, so I posit that he may be ideologically and emotionally compromised in dealing with the issue. Violence spread last night to the Bronx. If the riots aren’t controlled tonight we might be seeing the National Guard enforcing curfew. A terrifying but maybe necessary prospect at this point.
In more uplifting news, communities organized to clean up the aftermath of the Riots in the Bronx this morning.

vehicle traffic restricted after curfew south of Harlem. Probably something else that will go unenforced lmao. Is the NYPD going to pull everyone over and check IDs? How are they going to know who lives where? De Blasio is being incompetent.
New York City extended an 8:00 p.m. curfew through Sunday and announced most vehicles would be banned south of 96th Street in Manhattan during the curfew.
The exceptions would be residents, essential workers, busses, and truck deliveries.

the entire NYPD has been put on call. Don’t think this has happened since 9/11.
edit: The Manhattan Bridge situation in Chinatown ended peacefully. Spiderman even made an appearance:

From what it seemed tonight was much better than last night and there were a lot more peaceful protesters than looters, but sadly more people are talking about the looting rather than the protest or the terrible events leading to the outrage.
“ Looters struck in Manhattan again on Tuesday, though the damage appeared to be a much smaller than the outright chaos of the previous night, with cops seen making several arrests outside of stores.
Videos posted on social media by reporters showed the NYPD making arrests after a group broke into a Zara at Broadway and Vesey Street near the World Trade Center.
A PBS reporter said he witnessed a brawl erupt outside the clothing store, as a protester attempted to stop the looting.”
