NEW YORK | The Torch (740 8th Ave) | 1029 FT | 52 FLOORS

So far, I don’t like it. I’ll wait for more official renderings to make my final judgement.

Thank you TKDV, you understood what I was trying to communicate.

Its Friday everyone. Let’s all get along!

Anyways, I’m excited about this development. Skyscrapers, a gravity drop… will feel like Spiderman, which is a very New York thing.

Not really, it’s like I highlighted in the mass diagram photo, there are extrusions “attached” to the core that will be glass, the whole core/building area won’t be enclosed just the 3 areas where the ride is. You’re comparison to the One Vanderbilt elevator is kind of similar, but just imagine it the opposite way, in that it’s a platform going up and down that is open but the exposed shaft is glass encased, not the platform.

Made this little diagram to help show what’s going on with the ride. It’s not completely accurate in terms of the weird shapes and how the glass encasements are built out, but the general idea is there and the core is correct.

The “front” side of the 3 lifts faces the Hudson. Since we also don’t know what material will face the stem or really the whole building I just have it as aluminum.

Lol, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many comments on a Yimby article in such short time, or in general even.

We now know from the documents of the diagrams for the ride that even the construction board diagram is old now, the odd shape extrusion things keep on changing their positions and placements along the tower and other elements have changed. The article should’ve really been made a month ago or whenever the diagram was first posted to the fencing.

Probably released in a comic book.

The facade of this building is going to have to be made of top-quality materials for it to be redeemable. In my opinion, it is just meh. I need to see real-world renderings to judge the project better.

Per NYguy:

Interested in seeing what the lighting will be here.

Are those colors properly coded/displayed? If so this building is going to be ugly as hell, purple, lime green, bright orange/yellow WTF

It seems as though Extell has decided to give NYC a permanent middle finger!

I would like to think those are just categorized colored layers on the spreadsheet to denote the items most likely on a reference drawing or drawing of some type for contractors/architects to differentiate all the different facade treatments. Just as the structural diagrams had different color coordinated components to differentiate between the different and same types.

Now, if they are actually the colors of the facade, well, lol.
