Me too! This may be the first drop ride to come to fruition in Manhattan. I also think that Times Square will be much busier this time once this goes up and opens. ![]()

I’d been saying repeatedly that there would be a ride because the permits and occupancy documents listed a ride and ride loading level, so I’m not nearly as surprised as some, lol. I deduced that it would be a ride of this sort since it was at the base of the stem. It also says indoor so i wonder if it will be behind glass or something.
The whole thing is still very hard to look at, especially with the section view showing all the strange floor outline geometry. Not a fan, I don’t think cladding can save it, nor the hotel portion.
@lowkeylion how is this (ride) anything like City Climb, I wouldn’t consider that attraction a ride at all.
Well yeah but I thought you meant something like a big slide or something, not an amusement park ride inside of the building lol.
Yeah, I saw the slide perception being thrown around too, but a slide that tall going round and round I think would be too disorienting lol.
The ride extrusions are actually visible on the image that NYCityBoy took of the construction fence board of the project. So they are integrated with the shape of the facade, probably enclosed so that, screams are not heard, things dropped don’t hit people, and so it can be used year round.
Although I find the observation tower very ugly, you would have a very nice view of the PABT redevelopment from there.
Just wish they would refine the design some more. The top portion looks too jumbled and blocky. The stem can be smoother in shape.
I agree, it’s a very ruggedly designed building in it’s envelope, but i don’t know if refining it would have that great of affect on the overall shape because it’s still so strange.
Sad, NYC is being turned into a Las Vegas.
How exactly?
Casinos, rides on top of buildings, do I really have to spell it out for you? I don’t bad mouth everything. Maybe I am just more discerning, since I am not a child.
I find it beautiful.
As it should be. NYC is the crown jewel of the world’s hyperpower.
While I believe everyone is free to their own opinion, I don’t think those two things automatically make a place like Las Vegas. There are plenty of casinos in cities across the planet and that doesn’t make them like or equal to Las Vegas and the same goes for rides and attractions. And also, like I mentioned in the HY Phase II thread, it’s not just a casino, it’s a resort. There’s also a resort in Washington DC, does that make the capital like Las Vegas?
Also 007 was referring to Mackensen, not you, but Mackensen is also entitled to her opinion @007, so who are you to say she is badmouthing everything.
Casinos are in no way monopolized by Vegas, even inside the US.
Explain how rides on top of buildings is a bad thing or is in any way sad.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I also don’t like this building as it exists right now, so stop making/finding a fuss with @Mackensen’s posts.
Okay
I’ll keep my mouth shut before I get suspended.
I highlighted @NYCityBoy 's photo of the diagram on the construction fence to show the location of the ride enclosures (the 3rd one is out of view on the south side of the core). It’s interestingly unfortunate that one actually facing east (facing TS) wasn’t possible.
I think if the spiral is clad in glass it will look the best and make for interesting reflections by the sun and surroundings, a dull material will affect that appearance.
In some ways I agree with what you’re saying. NYC is known for classic architecture like the ESB, Chrysler, Grand Central. Even modern buildings like One Vanderbilt and Steinway I see carrying on this tradition. This current building appears cheap and gimmicky by comparison. I’m not opposed to this getting built, it will be fun but honestly NYC is a league above and really doesn’t need anything similar to what a city like LV has going on.
I feel like that comparison is off now though, because you are using Architecture in your comment, but GSPLover was just generally talking about casinos and rides in comparing it to Las Vegas. But even Las Vegas doesn’t have architecture like this, it’s not that it’s cheap and gimmicky like what one would otherwise find in Las Vegas, it’s just weird in the context of NY and really any other city.
So 007 you get from me (since I’m currently writing in offline mode) the last yellow card. Hopefully you know exactly what the red card means?
And another thing 007 I myself know the New York Yimby forum since late 2014 or early 2015.
