Via NyGuy on SSP:
Dead on arrival. Van Bramer is so NIMBY he once killed 100% affordable housing next to the railroad tracks, in addition to trying to stop a project that included a school and apartments on Roosevelt Ave, and then there’s the Amazon controversy.
Without his support, the council will vote against this rezoning.
I would love to see this guy come up with a proposal for the land that meets all his demands but still makes economic sense.
“I have said before and I will say again that all of the publicly owned land in this site should be used exclusively for the public,” Van Bramer. “Not handed over to developers for profit, and I strongly support a community land trust on this site.”
“I do believe that something should happen on this land, but this proposal isn’t that something,”
To me that reads as no housing on public land since housing is inherently used by private individuals. Which I guess leaves parks, but more parks will increase rents in the neighborhood which is bad, so I guess walled off paved lots is the answer.
a bridge over the Anable Basin as well as a bridge over the LIRR yard and Newtown Creek (“Longpoint Bridge”) will go a long way to connecting Hunters Point to neighboring areas:

Am I the only one confused about how they actually intend to generate power? Is it supposed to be geothermal?
Feel almost as if this parcel of land will be a lost cause for a couple years to come, unfortunately. Would’ve loved to seen the redevelopment of this place by Amazon. Construction would’ve probably been ongoing by now.
Did the rezoning go through? Is this project on? Me and Jay had a convo about it, what’s the state of this project
Edit:
Okay this is what I found
Yes here’s the latest on it https://therealdeal.com/2022/05/09/investors-in-huge-lic-project-buy-out-durst-for-97m/amp/
It’s as of right so it’ll be built regardless.
Edit: no it’s not as of right. Needs a rezoning
Good. I don’t like Durst anyway
