The spacing between the âTâ and âEâ is infuriating. Itâs wider than the other letters.
Also, 1 WTC is 10 years old.

Love that last shot youâve got there @NewYorkCity76
Haha thanks!
Two days ago was the tenth anniversary of the opening of One World Trade Center. I canât believe itâs already been a decade
Those are not broken lights: this is âone World Trade Center Playing Light Tricksâ.

One World Trade Center Plays Light Tricks
âŚNow something quiet similar may be happening with the replacement to the towerâOne World Trade Center. In certain light and atmospheric conditions the top floors of the building seem to glow like a bright incandescent light buildâŚ
Just kidding here; having some fun the the sheer lunacy of our NYC Architectural Lighting malfunctions.
They might as well just shut them off along with the base lighting. Both look like garbage 90% of the time.
Do all of these floors really have a mechanical use that takes up that much space?
I wonder if they can convert a floor or two into offices, one day, putting aside 9/11 fears.
I can assure you yes, those floors are filled with mechanical equipment. Mechanical floors in any new building (and even those which are older) are almost always maximized with equipment.
The chance of a mechanical floor being converted to rentable space is almost slim to none in any situation.
Also take into account that even though there are 10 âlevelsâ of lights on the mechanical floor, there is really only 6 or so mech floors.
Disagree. I pass by every evening and I think the base lights add a nice flair and are (mostly) well done
I would agree the base is nice looking when it actually works in full. There are always panels out and the north side has a huge chunk thatâs off at the top every night. The tower looks more cohesive at night with the base lights dimmed or off completelyâŚin my opinion.
Good point, I forgot about it.
I personally find specifically the lighting of the base of One WTC concerning in the modern day. Its like looking at a video game from the 80âs with too many dead pixels. I know theyâre currently updating the lighting on the spireâŚbut the base REALLY needs to be done as well. For christ sake Iâd assume LED strips like in a college dorm might be better than whatâs installed now (and almost 10 years ago)
Whatâs worse in my opinion aside from lighting is the fact they didnât seek out other options for the spire cladding and radome that was planned in the initial design. That would really spice up the tower⌠It looks unfinishedâŚ
I know the original plan wasnât an option due to wind but has there been any research for alternatives afterwards that could work with the elements/weather?
Valeue engineering at the round up of a build is terrible when it comes to this scale. Makes you wonder what will happen to 2WTC if the miracle of it rising from the ground ever happens.
One WTC, One Wall Street and The Greenwich; and the winner is The Greenwich.

Apparently none.
SOM and Childs insisted at the time that they can work with the PA to find design alternatives, but got shrugged off, it was on very short notice as well.
