I think that different elements must run their course in New York for there to be a megatall. First the new normal should become 400 meters and it is slowly becoming that. When all the supertalls that are planned are built and 300-400 tall supertalls become the norm I think people will be less sensitive to the idea of a supertall. I predict plans of a megatall in manhattan popping out around 2020-2025
ya I was thinking something along those lines. I think once we have a wall of supertalls on the hudson, a wall of them along central park and a cluster of them downtown a 620m tower should be able to fit in.
Exactly my feelings
New York will eventually build a 600 meter tower, not because it needs to make a statement or an impact, but because it makes sense. Maybe some billionaires want to live higher than the rest and so a new building of condominiums will be constructed with the top unit at 2000 feet. Or maybe a new office building, also wants to lay claim to the highest observation deck in the city, at 2000 feet. The point is, once it starts building 600 meter towers, there will be many more to follow, not just one. This of course can be 10-20 years away, but eventually it will happen.
This reminds me of the Disney series which I like a lot, ‘Gargoyles’!
A 600m tall skyscraper will be like Eyrie Building, but in other location or possibly in Midtown Manhattan.
I also think of this possibility, and I wonder until then how its design will look like.
And One Vanderbilt kinda reminds me of the Eyrie Building, I think mostly because of its location and its incredible design and height. Even that it isn’t over 500-600m tall and lacks gargoyles and a castle.
This skyscraper will be amazing when complete.
I agree!!
An icon in the making
is that a new render? have not seen it before.
Being new or not, it’s a beautiful one of this incredible Manhattan skyscraper!
It was in the NYP last week. I hadn’t seen it before, but I like it!
I haven’t seen that as well. That’s def new. Nice find.
NY is really En fuego!
I wonder who the operator will be? It would be neat to have some famous executive chef cooking up there. Essentially, it looks like 1 Vanderbilt will have its version of “Windows on the World”.
This would be so great if this building has something like that, Chris.
And I hope it does.
Goliath: Such amazing changes man have made in the world while we slept.
DragonLearner: True, I couldn’t agree more. And is still changing.
I love this shot. Can’t wait until One Vanderbilt to fill that void between the 2 iconic towers
So true. I love this shot ‘two’. Both this moment and with One Vanderbilt in the future.
