Also. One of these days I feel like Im going to show up in one of your photos. We always seem to be in the same place/same time.
This is true.
We need to organize a beer fest!
I love beer too. I brew my own actually ![]()
We will have to organize another meetup. I think last time I saw you guys meet up I was just a lurker here.
This entire block will be gone in no time! Any bets on when the lot is clear? I would bet by end of August? Or maybe that is too optimistic…
That seems about right. They have been going at a steady pace since the beginning. I’d add on to your statement and say that they might be about half way with excavation by the end of the year and finish the foundations near the end of Q1 of 2017. If all goes well and at the rate we are seeing.
Definitely August I think, probably before the end, too!
I agree!
I was there almost exactly one month ago and it was way more than twice as big as it is now. I would assume things move faster toward the end for logistical reasons. Ya I think this will be all gone within 30 more days.
I wonder how long it will take them to complete all the needed work to the infrastructure for grand central. I assume that will have to be completed or mostly complete before they can start building the tower. Seems like it could take a while.
Edit1212
They can build the infrastructure and tower at the same time.
As per NYT article, below is the timeframe & agreement.
SL Green said construction on the 1,501-foot-tall building would begin soon with the demolition of the site at 42nd Street and Vanderbilt. The tower and the infrastructure upgrades are expected to be finished by 2021, the company said.
As part of the agreement, SL Green must finish the public improvements before tenants can occupy the upper floors of the building.
This is like the Walls of Jericho, lads!
July 20th
With this block coming down we are seeing new and unique angles of buildings so old. I love it. You truly get to appreciate the area when there’s even just ONE open space to view from.
I agree, Batman!
I was on the Met rooftop on July 21st, and people from all over the world were marveling at the Midtown skyline. Can you imagine what this view will look like in a few years with:
Verre
Steinway
Nordstrom
One Vanderbilt
Time Warner
425 Park, etc!
