Nice lighting scheme on the lower portion of the building as seen this evening - also, the netting on the temporary HVAC units means they will hopefully come down soon…

cringey :grimacing:

Expensive but meh.

The point of the tower design is to allow the clock tower to shine and not be overwhelmed by the new structure. In that regard, KPF did a great job and allowing for a well detailed restoration of the existing podium (bringing it back in line to its original design versus its mid-century revamp) and creating a large building that doesn’t overwhelm the clock tower. In that way they let the new fade into the background.

I find this uninspired and boring, but am nonetheless very happy to see those HVAC units gone!

I understand the architects were aiming for something understated that would let the clock tower shine. That’s an admirable goal, and I’m glad the showy Daniel Libeskind residential tower that was planned for this site years ago never got built. But I can’t help but feel that a few minor stone accents a la 50 Hudson Yards would have made this so much better. The final product tries so hard to be “understated” it ends up looking cheap.

it doesn’t look cheap in person, it looks pretty boring…

This one is basically done, i believe tenants have already moved into the tower, all the landscaping is also completed on the lower and upper terraces, makes for some really nice spaces.

This does not look cheap at all. Conservative.
