They have shown many images of the base on the PAS side. I hope that it looks good.
I’m surprised that the dilapidated building at the NE corner of PAS and E 23rd hasn’t been redeveloped. I suspect that a pretty large condo/high-end hotel could rise there.
This is a massive improvement, but it’s still not great. They should have razed the whole structure. Sadly, it once had an elaborate and magnificent facade that matched the adjacent clock tower.

Robert do you have a photo/illustration of the original building facade?
evidently the clock is receiving a bit of TLC
Good. This is NYC’s classic clocktower. I wonder if we’ll ever see a huge one, a la The Mecca Royal Clock tower?
For reference, here’s the old building from the 1890s, and the tower before they stripped it down.
And compared with the newer building. They demolished/completely rebuilt it in phases in the mid to late 50s.
Sorry. I just saw this. Fortunately, US Steel posted a photo of the former glory.
A lot of people actually do not even know that the tower itself was stripped of it’s original elaborate marble façade and replaced with simple limestone panels during the 1964 renovation. It’s actually a travesty that people don’t know that because those small details in the original façade made it so much more beautiful.
