The people behind the Times Square casino are sour theirs got axed.

Marc Holliday, CEO of SL Green, which was the project’s primary developer and property owner, torched the decision following the brief vote in a small conference room overlooking Times Square.

“This was a despicable display of cowardice, a complete lack of consideration for all the people who would benefit from this,” he shouted at committee members as they silently filed out. “Go run and hide.”

I didn’t care either way about this until I read about the plans to narrow sidewalks and remove bus lanes. Just walk around there and you can see everything on the street is already packed.

I mean honestly, all the Manhattan bids were pretty mediocre. This increases the chance for better proposals like Resort World Queens, Metropolitan Park, and Coney Island.

My hope is that we can still see development on the empty lots like Freedom Plaza and Avenir. It would be a shame if they remained empty for years.

It’s likely that they could just remain empty for some time again since the casino bidding was used as a way to redevelop the sites, without it they cant (well they can but have chosen not to, clearly) do anything.

Metropolitan Park looks really good. Perfect location. It will also provide much needed renovation to the 7 train subway station.
