It is one of the classier casino designs Iâve seen, but I still have several reservations. Iâve already mentioned the lack of a subway station nearby, which means this would generate several thousand private car and taxi trips per day. Visitors arenât going to drag their luggage all the way from Grand Central/42nd Street and an infill station on the 7 seems extremely unlikely. Maybe a new ferry service would help? Did the idea of an LGA ferry die on the vine?
I also worry about emergency egress in a cantilevered section that large â you definitely wouldnât want to be way out on one of the cantilevered floors in the event of a fire.
On a more personal/subjective note, putting a casino resort next to the UN creates a pretty bizarre juxtaposition, although the inclusion of a freedom and democracy museum makes it a little more palatable. Letâs just hope itâs not a more of freedom and democracy memorial by then!

I LOVE the swooping/curved designs! Simple, yet refined in a way that would make these buildings a VAST improvement over a long-vacant lot. Only real issue(s) (as mentioned) are the proximity of casinos to the new residences, and ease of access to subways (which, apparently, would involve long walks to Grand Central or lots of rideshare). Otherwise, Iâd love to see these buildings get built!

Think this will area be served by a 42nd 2nd Ave stop, in a few decades lol. Wouldnât hate the State require some investment to the SAS as part of the approval. I like that this project fills in a huge underdeveloped piece of the waterfront, but as it is currently itâs pretty isolated from any transit, which i feel should be priority for any casino bid. Think Iâm a bit partial to Willetâs Point for that reason.

Their arguments conveniently leave out that this part of town is NOT A NEIGHBORHOOD. Itâs currently a rail yard and a parking lot that butts up against a highway and a convention center.

Legislation designed to set a hard deadline for the casino licensing process in New York has been passed by both the Senate and the Assembly and will be sent to Gov. Kathy Hochul for approval.
State senators approved SB 9673 on June 7 by a 51-4 vote and the Assembly green-lit it 51-9. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Joe Addabbo, would establish a deadline for selecting the three casino sites in downstate New York. The New York legislature had been set to adjourn on June 6 but stayed past that cut-off to vote on the bill.
Things could theoretically progress significantly faster than the March 2026 deadline, as SB9673 allows interested developers to apply for casino licenses while still in the process of resolving land use issues. Under the amended bill, applications are due Aug. 31 of this year.

Which casinos havenât released a rendering of their plans yet? I know that the following have:
Hudson Yards/Wynns
Empire City Casino/MGM
Time Square/Caesars
New York Word Resort
Parx Casino/Siverstein
Coney Island/Thor Equities
Nassau Casino/Las Vegas Sands
Freedom Plaza
I believe we are still waiting to see Citi Field and a couple others. Which ones does everyone think will get the licenses? I think it will be between Times Square or Hudson Yards, Empire City, and World Resort.

I think thatâs it, Vornado pulled out of plans to also bid for a license so they never moved forward with anything. I canât recall anyone else out of the list youâve made.
Also, do you mean Resorts World?
I think TS has a pretty good chance of getting 1 of the licenses, if not Resorts World and Empire City since they are already established resorts/casino that are just trying to expand. Though there has been some, I havenât heard much backlash to the TS proposal and positive community input was an important factor in the decision process. HY is honestly a toss up because its had good and bad feedback.
