They don’t have a choice. If the city doesn’t renew the permit, they can’t use MSG for events with more than 2,500 people.
This was posted earlier in the thread. Where is this from?
MSG has been really big on their spheres lately. I wonder if a future MSG would be a sphere as well. I’m not so sure this type of design would fit will in midtown
It was a presentation by RethinkNYC that was posted on YouTube. It was a vision posted by someone.
If Dolan doesn’t want the Western Yard, they should offer him 2 blocks on Times Square. No way he would turn that down. They could elevate the stadium 50 feet so it doesn’t mess up the grid system and put a tower on top of it.
This thread is getting ridiculous.
And PATH!
And Amtrak and soon to be Metro North lol
Do you really think any governmental authority will ever do anything that may possibly harm James Dolan?
Why did he give the maximum campaign donation to Hochul in 2022?
Certainly not because he agreed with her politics!
Oh boo hoo dolan. Stay mad, maybe stop with the dystopian bs you’re trying to pull with facial recognition
Ooh. Sorry if this is emotional charged but every time I see news on this clown more and more my reasons for wanting the permit revoked are less practical and more wanting to see this guy get stiffed
Truth be told, this guy is untouchable, and there’s nothing anyone in Albany can do about it.
Why?
Because he spends hundreds of thousands on lobbyists whose only job is to ensure that if anyone gets stiffed, it will be John Q. Taxpayer and not James L. Dolan.
That’s nonsense but sure.

wouldnt be a bad space if the sports venue left the building. the ceiling of MSG would be a pretty cool station ceiling if the entire thing were opened up to the station level.
I agree. That’s in essence Chakrabarti’s plan which is fantastic.
its the only viable plan. the idea of vacating and demolishing MSG and building something new is pretty ridiculous.
that property is extremely structurally complex and would take an enormous effort just to remove, without building anything new at all.
a reclad is a definite though.
could even incorporate an interesting roof onto the existing structure, ETFE or the like would be very nice to let in natural light.
There’s no reason why the Woods Bagot proposal isn’t viable considering whatever Robert posted looks exactly like it. But I dont think “more” needs to be added to the massing of MSG, the “open” side walks around it are nice, they don’t need to be covered by overhanging structure to the property line limits.
Sure it’s nice that it appears from that image that the theather is/was taken away, but that doesnt mean more needed to be added on all 4 corners.
Don’t think this is necessarily a bad approach, if it really comes down to Dolan not moving…The larger question I have for this plan (which we don’t see from the two images) is what happens with the entrance to 7th. Even with all the development on the West Side, 7th Ave is still the primary entry point, even more so with the additional underground connection points to heralds square.
