Wasn’t sure where to post this since it deals with Boston. But I think it’s a phenomenal case study for historic preservation and possibly new low rise development.
I’m not 100% certain abut the specifics but it appears that developers digitally scanned this building, CNC’ed it and then re-built 70-80% of the same building, brand new.
Imagine what could be built if modern manufacturing made development cheap enough to once again build these grand buildings? This is 100% proof of concept that it can be done.
Plans for the new seven-story building at 38 West 8th Street and the restoration and storefront design of existing building 177 MacDougal were made in collaboration with historic preservation experts Higgins Quasebarth & Partners.

They finally put down the stones and got rid of the orange cones!
This area is really coming together after so much work has been put into it. Just a little more ways to go!
