Yes, most do look bad - some manage to minimize the visual discombobulation.
This is one example of a cantilever that is not (too) visually awkward looking. Cantilevers on buildings are mostly awful looking because they appear ‘top heavy’ - they violate the natural instinct for balance, gravitational forces, and good proportion in general.
BTW - It doesn’t look at all like a CAT. I have never seen a cat that is not pretty.
