Unfortunately, that design was discarded for a super mediocre T4 renovation.

Some little update photos from T1!

JFK T6 provided a nice photo update of the artwork panel that will be visible outside the terminal. They hope to have it done by summer, and the next components are LED lighting and associated terminal signage.

Plus a render:

Better photo of a new model depicting the updated T1 Phase B design. Interesting how they’ve given the second concourse a distinct look to the rest of the terminal.

Wow, nice find. I can’t tell if this updated Phase B concourse is smaller or bigger than the previous renders, but I like how the glass windows are completely floor to ceiling.

On a side note… I thought the boarding piers for Phase A were already really big, but these boarding piers for these new Phase B gates are incredibly massive (to the point where it looks like when combined together they exceed the size of the actual concourse itself). Unless those piers are gonna be used for boarding areas (which I’m not sure is the case because I don’t think the renders reflect that), I’m not really sure what the large size of these piers is needed for. The cynic in me thinks it’s probably a cheaper way for them to increase overall square footage of the terminal to match original claims.

While the second half looks nice, its quite bothersome that the design seems to be changed. It breaks consistency. I also wonder about the huge boarding piers. There should be no reason that they are that big.

It is strange, you can see the roofs and boarding piers of each of the phases are also not the same on the main image here: JFK Terminal 1: New Terminal One Construction & Updates

I really don’t know why that would be - maybe they are expecting the very largest widebodies to use the largest boarding piers, or maybe the airlines expected to utilize a certain set of gates had some say in which style. I have no clue!

T1 seems to have an emphasis on high quality passenger experience, so I would guess the boarding towers are a way of making the boarding structure feel like less of an appendage.

Furthermore, the building will make extensive use of lounge boarding, which in their setup, requires full access to the boarding tower from the upper level.

Currently at JFK! I’m enjoying seeing T6 lit up from inside, where final planters and banners are seen installed. Interestingly, their check-in screens are displaying Air India’s logo, who I believe has yet to be announced as a tenant airline:eyes:

From the infrastructure side, the expanded ingress road is striped, and the spur for the new parking entrance is halfway finished. I believe the final taxi stand needs to open before they can complete this section.

The old T5 egress road is finally demolished, which will allow them to complete the road and curb condition there. TWA’s pedestrian access canopy is starting to look like its old self again, too!

Didn’t get to see much about T1 today. Most of their work still seems to be going on indoors since my last update, and they’ve been doing a lot of administrative work for their Phase B, which is turning out to be more ambitious than I expected.

I noticed that the “JFK T6” sign on the art panel is up, a notable change that I noticed after my update post.

Excellent update overall. The golden hour sunlight is magnificent.
