The connection from T5 to T6 is now being built! Apparently there’s a 6 foot elevation difference between the concourse levels of T5 and T6, so passengers will have to traverse a ramp to cross between the buildings.
At least this terminal has an airside connection. It’s extremely likely the T1 to T4 connection was eliminated.
A landscape architecture firm working on Terminal One has published their work, illustrating an extensive plan for vegetation across the arrivals and departures frontage. If this is indeed what’s being built, I’m very excited to see this for myself next year.
Wow this is quite beautiful and unexpected. I haven’t followed the finer details of this project.
The landscaping is awesome. I’m sure especially in the warmer months, waiting for the bus or for someone to pick you up is going to be much more pleasant with what is essentially a park in the front of the terminal. There’s even going to be greenery on the departures level walkways too.
Rip T1 to T4 connector. It’s gone as not even that video shows it.
And some T1 news:
Exactly right. According to the firm’s website, it’ll be 3.5 acres and run the full length of the building’s frontage. Here’s the link, by the way: JFK Airport, Terminal One - OJB Landscape Architecture
I posted this in the Congestion Pricing thread but it’s worth mentioning here in the JFK Renovations thread due to its relevance that Christie wants NJ to sabotage the JFK and LGA renovations by cutting funding to spite NY for putting in Congestion Pricing.
What a vindictive asshole. Even so, LGA is pretty much complete and JFK is mostly privately funded, so I’m not even sure he can do much of anything to stop it.
That right there is one of many accurate ways to describe Christie.
I say we raise the stakes on the Gateway Project and tunnel straight through to PA . Gastric bypass surgery for the entire state. Cutting that FF CC down to size is long overdue.
New Jersey is a cancer to both cities that support their economy, New York and Philadelphia, neither of which are in New Jersey.
Happy (late) Valentine’s Day from JFK! I’m home for the weekend and managed to make a trip down to the airport to review construction progress in-person.
And, of course, to planespot!
Getting started, Terminal One is looking good, with some finishes continuing to be applied to the departures roadway and parapet/soffet. It also looks like the beginnings of the bridge to the parking garage stub are being constructed, as well. With the old T4 departures approach now gone, construction crews have begun casting the final supporting beams for the remainder of the departures roadway. Inside, it appears the structure to support the roof system is in place, and one (or possibly two?) of the columns have received their curving cladding. Speaking cladding, I didn’t realize the grey panels were slightly corrugated.
At Terminal 6, roadway progress appears to be continuing as more supporting piers are being cast. Over at T7, much of the arrivals roadway has been dug up and piles for the roadway here are being driven. On T6 itself, crews were hanging the cladding for the canopy, and it appears there was structure in place for the interior ceiling system as well. In the T5/T6 bridge, a large construction wall is now up, blocking most of the view inside. Additionally, crews have started assembling the structure for the curved facade that will loom over the new taxi stand (and block views of TWA from the T5 bridge)
That’s an excellent update. Looks like T6’s overhanging roof is starting to be prepped for cladding. T1 is massive in person. It’s going to be a big improvement over the small existing T1 for sure.
JFK T6 LinkedIn has plenty of nice updates. The facade is being installed on the front and the skylights are receiving some kind of protective coating.
Looks like Jetblue will be (thankfully) updating their existing facility at Terminal 05, bringing an architectural language similar to Terminal B at LGA and a complete revamp of food/concession offerings.
