The NIMBYs need to grow up. The IBX is a net positive and will help alleviate the transit desert that Queens is afflicted with.

Hate articles like these. At the open houses earlier this year the support was overwhelming for this new line and likely way outnumbers the few loud voices against this project.

Yeah, these are the same ones who don’t want “undesirables” (e.g minorities, disabled people, etc,) entering their neighborhoods because minorities often use transit and are “poorer”. I remember some throwing an uproar over the idea they might peddle their wares something by station stops.
And others are like “i dont want towers” as if the IBX opening will magically cause large high rises to sprout up immediately or upzoning to occur.

Extending the IBX to the Bronx would be expensive due to the need to build a twin bridge to the Hells Gate bridge. The bridge alone would cost more than the entire IBX project as it’s currently envisioned, and for how much benefit?
The East Bronx is getting 4 new Metro North stations and relative fast service to Mid-Town Manhattan.
Much more feasible is to extend the IBX to LaGuardia, replacing the cancelled LGA Airtrain, and terminate at Citifield/US Open.

The MTA should go all-in and put half-height platform doors in these new stations. Its a clean slate with uniform rolling stock so problems faced with doing it in the actual subway do not apply.

It seems like they’re going more for a light metro type idea like the Vancouver SkyTrain, the REM and the Taipei Metro Brown (Wenhu) Line

If this is fully grade-separated (still not sure what’s going on with the cemetery tunnel thing in Middle Village), then they need to just do proper subway rolling stock like the Staten Island Railway. And if they do LRT I hope it’s open gangway.
Yeah, except the REM has full-screen doors at every station, including the outdoor/elevated stops.
