Itā€™s wild to imagine how none of those skyscrapers existed just 10 years ago :open_mouth: New York definitely exudes a 21st century vibe like I thought ā€œthe futureā€ would be like (besides a lack of flying cars)!

Interesting that they are selling, considering it is so new. Wonder if this means they are trying to raise capital for a new project.

This entire site needs a signature tower, a megatall. 1600+. Without it leaves the site incomplete and a missed opportunity in my opinion.

Well the HY district is getting a 1,600 ft tower (closer to 1,700ft than 1,600, but whatever). As for a megatall, I donā€™t know where one could go up. I donā€™t believe there are any viable sites, probably only the phase 2 office tower but I donā€™t know the sqft on that one and I doubt they will stretch it that far. The renderings show a tower of similar stature (though fatter) to 35 HY. Ofc things change all the time

I posted this in the HY Phase II thread, considering the development map I posted a few posts back, there are not any sites in the area, even those areas included in the HY special district that I did not show in the map, that could support a megatall, let alone a very tall supertall other than the 418 11th Ave site.

Nice on the surface; but there is an interesting Hudson Yards back story too. That Olympic stadium IMHO was simply a ruse, a stall tactic, for the eventual development of the vast Hudson Yards site.

The good, the bad and the ugly about Hudson Yards: all speculation worth a look. I always believed that Hudsons Yards was a M. Bloomberg 3rd term land grab. Here is an interesting article that covers that speculation. It may be a bit more ugly truth than is appropriate for this type of forum: so let the Admin delete if they so deem necessary.

EXCERPT - 3) PUBLIC LAND GRAB. Four huge real estate developments appeared to be given to Stephen Ross & Related Companies which are now worth billions. The public lands reportedly sold for $1 apiece include Hudson Yard, Hunters Point South and the still pending Flushing Meadows Corona Park development. Iā€™m not sure but Bronx Terminal was also transferred in a sweet deal to the real estate developer Stephen Ross & Related Companies.

That all sounds like conjecture, like a tabloid.

The land that Hudson Yards sits on was always planned to be developed with a major midtown expansion since the city built/opened the Railyard in 1987. At the time, the site was a prime location to build an Olympic venue as the city was vying to be the host city for the 2012 Olympics so I donā€™t see that as a stall at all, and I respect that that is an opinion and not a fact.

The land wasnā€™t just given to Related as the link suggests. Tishman Speyer originally won the bid/ was chosen by the city to privately develop Hudson Yards, but their deal fell through after the recession when Morgan Stanley (who backed the deal) went under. Related was next in line to be chosen by the city as they were backed by investment firm Goldman Sachs who was bailed out by the government and thus had more leverage in providing assurance that the development wouldnā€™t go bust. And they also teamed up with Oxford PG after the recession so that helped them. Mayor Bloomberg was not the only entity making decisions as to who would develop the site.

well said, not everything is done with nefarious intent.
