A former Republican congressman from the Hudson Valley and opponent of congestion pricing is in line to lead the federal agency that oversees mass transit.

Marc Molinaro has had discussions with Trump administration officials about leading the Federal Transit Administration, according to people familiar with the matter. Part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, the FTA oversees mass transit systems around the nation and disburses roughly $20 billion a year in grant funding.

I suspected an opponent, but an opponent from the Hudson Valley is going to fight tooth-and-nail to get rid of CP. Like they have so much more motivation to get rid of it than other opponents of CP

I fear that if that moron tries to kill congestion pricing, things like the IBX might be at stake.

Congestion Pricing is helping move this project along again and now it’s fate is uncertain if Trump’s pick tries to kill CP.

Has the MTA already started receiving some of the $15 billion loan? I remember an article saying that it’ll be harder to legally cancel it once they start receiving and using the money

Why would a clawback of disbursed funds be unlawful?

It’s not like ours is a nation of laws.

Just relaying what I read in a NYTimes article I believe. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens but there’s still reason for hope if the NYTimes is to be believed

(Also a lot of cheeto satan’s executive orders are temporarily paused right now because they’re unlawful and in litigation, so some laws at least are being upheld still)

I read the FTA does not control Congestion Pricing. That is the FHWA.

He’ll just issue an executive order getting rid of congestion pricing and pardon anyone who got a fine for not paying the congestion fee.

And while I recognize the president’s pardon power does not extend to non-federal crimes, I am sure this Supreme Court can “interpret” the Constitution to bend to the president’s whims.

Ms. Hochul and Mr. Trump have spoken twice this week including on Thursday morning. They discussed a range of issues including congestion pricing, according to a person familiar with the matter, with the governor conveying to Mr. Trump that the program was showing signs of success.

President Trump told Ms. Hochul, the person said, that there would be no immediate action and that before any decisions were made they should touch base again next week.

A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

There is little precedent for the reversal of a transportation project of this magnitude, transit experts said. New York’s congestion pricing plan, an idea that first took shape in the state more than six decades ago, is the first such program in the country. Legal experts said that the federal government’s maneuver could flout the law and would undoubtedly face resistance in the courts.

“It is questionable whether the administration can unilaterally halt congestion pricing,” said Michael Gerrard, a Columbia Law School professor who supports the program. “The legal authority for that is not at all apparent.”

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates congestion pricing, declined to comment on the latest potential threat to the program, but pointed to recent comments it had made about the plan’s resilience.

“We’ve been sued in every federal court and state court east of the Mississippi, and we’re batting 1.000,” Janno Lieber, the chair and chief executive of the M.T.A., said in an interview this month. “We’ve won every time.”

This comment right here makes the title of the article misleading. From what I’m getting from this it seems to be a major backpedal since it’s showing signs that it’s working and if Trump really wanted it dead, he would of done so on Day 1. And the fact that Trump said he isn’t going to immediately do anything to the governor means there’s a chance it could continue especially if Hochul can continue to prove it is effective. And with many other things the President has done, there’s a extremely high chance the courts could tie his plans up anyways, allowing it to continue.

I wouldn’t read too much into any possible discussions between the governor and the president.

Trump doesn’t wield any executive power. He’s just an authorised signatory, a notch above notary public or paralegal. He doesn’t decide whether an executive order is issued or not and what goes into them. That job belongs to the Heritage Foundation and Elon Musk. They type them up and give them to him to sign.

The NY Compost put out a piece that features Christie suggesting NJ sabotage the LGA and JFK renovations by cutting funding to protest (or get revenge for depending on how you look at it) congestion pricing. Whats funny is that idiot Christie doesn’t know that they’re not affiliated with the MTA and the PA might end up jacking up their tolls even more to recoup some of the money or to nobody’s benefit: possibly screw commuters and airport patrons over by inflating airtrain and PATH fares. And NJ was given a terrific deal for the congestion pricing that would of benefitted NJ Transit and they rejected it out of pure selfishness.

Donald probably has memories of being stuck in Midtown traffic.

He’s a little busy in Mordor wreaking havoc. Just don’t put on the ring or gaze towards Washington and we should be ok.
