You were busy this weekend!
Nice!
What’s up with some modern architects completely giving up on hiding mechanical floors/elevator core of Skyscrapers. Is there no way to design the building around that? Just seems so egregious and uncaring of the surroundings to have a giant concrete mass on the opposite end.
They aren’t giving up, that’s how you create rentable/usable area on small sites by shifting the core to the side. It’s intentional, otherwise you’d end up with a central core building that has no efficient use of the space around it.
There are very few buildings around the city with an offset core that leave the concrete exposed, this isn’t one of them, it’s being covered in metal panels like the renders show.
I think this is a real welcomed addition to the area, even outside of the realm of architecture. As always I can’t wait until the construction shed is down, the expanded sidewalk area will be much welcomed.
This new tower may not be iconic, or some sort of Architectural Marvel or masterwork; but one thing is for sure about the architectural aesthetics - it is not bland, boring, artless or ugly.
I think the developers/designers of this building have therefore gone above-and-beyond the bare minimum; which is more than we can say for many new constructions towers currently being built.
So, bravo 989 6th - nice work. ![]()
I do really wish more effort had been put into the “crown.” Even something relatively simple–like rounding off the edges to harmonize with the curves of the 6th Ave facade–would go a long way IMO.
Yes I agree. All that beautiful detail with the curved facade to have a not so elegant conclusion up top.
Even though this is a weird location, most of these apartments will have stunning views thanks to the lower height of surrounding buildings.
