NEW YORK | 740-750 8th Ave | 1067 FT | 52 FLOORS

Congrats to whoever got out the old air-brush for these renders, because this design looks like something straight out of TRON or Logan’s Run.

Love it love it love it! Especially how it’s inspired by Lady Liberty’s torch

Ha, beat me to it. The first rendering from the brochure spread looks like the work of cyberpunk Hugh Ferriss.

Still can’t say I find this tower attractive, but it does make a sort of perverse sense as the focal point the neon hell that is Times Square.

lol agreed, cyberpunk for sure. It does have a deco vibe to it. No amount of halo effect will sell me on this but renders are always fun.

How close did I get? :grinning:

The official rendering of the Weehawken view seems to either be stylised or show a different design iteration – there is an extra spiral at the base of the tower stem, and the hotel parapet is slanted while the other renderings show it flat.

The Hudson River shot is of the previous iteration when there was no ride added. There are 3 other renders that shows this same scheme with no rides.

Something new, something different, something textured, rising 1000ft into the air. NYC is growing. And it’s not another glass block.

„ 740 Eighth Avenue’s anticipated completion date is posted on site for the second quarter of 2027.“

I can already imagine the travel guide for New York in the future (2028). This tourist attraction will be a money pit.

you are entitled to your opinion

this is going to be an iconic tower that will be beloved by tourists, and perhaps given time even the NYC public.

Hehe, called it in October 2022 about the Statue of Liberty’s torch🗽

EDIT: D’OH! I see TKDV already mentioned that a month earlier!

The comments are hilarious in the YIMBY article. Such a stark contrast to the forum here.

Daring architecture maybe, but it doesn’t change the fact this building will be the ugliest building in NYC. I hate it.

More ugly than 33 Thomas Street?

I went to the grocery store for milk a few years ago and bumped into Rihanna in the dairy aisle. Hell, even in sweatpants Rihanna takes The Torch @Jaydayvis :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
