NEW YORK | 7 Dey Street (185 Broadway) | 404 FT | 35 FLOORS

Does anyone know what’s happening ( not happening ) with this building? There is no sign of any work going on there.

I agree it’s not bad. But for that prominent of a location I think it’s a dud. So much beautiful architecture around that this is going to stand out (in a bad way).

I will say it’s infinity better than the curved iteration though from a while back.

Work has started!

It’s great seeing a photo like this, definitive proof that foundation work will at least start on one of the many empty lots dotting Downtown. Those empty lots are usually the result of mismanagement by incompetent, unsophisticated, and nepotistic, developers (and their idiot sons and daughters).

Because SL Green is planning to build a rental tower, I’m not getting my hopes up for a stunning piece of architecture, since rentals are infrequently built to the same high standards as condos.

But the prospect of another iconic flagship retail store at the building’s base is perhaps reason enough to get excited about this development.

I think that this wil be a high-quality building. These will be expensive apartments.

I hope it will be high-quality. But as a rental building, it usually doesn’t pay off for developers to hire a starchitect and pump a lot of money into the building’s design. The project is taking advantage of the City’s new Affordable New York Housing program to reap a 35-year property tax abatement and 63 of the 209 apartments will be affordable.

Another great article by Yimby!

I’m so pleased that this formerly forlorn block is cleaning up. Before 9/11 (and for years afterward), it was so filthy and broken.

It looks like all of the pilings are done and they’re excavating the foundation now.

Nice. The plumbers have been busy getting rid of a lot of crap in NY.

It looks like they might be pouring concrete above ground level now.

FXCollaborative and SL Green Realty have added renderings of the building to their websites:

I’m excited for this building. It seems above-average.
